| Category | IT Jobs |
| Job Type | Full Time |
| Location | Oxford |
An opportunity is available to join a global semiconductor organisation working on advanced technology development in the UK. The position is based in Oxfordshire and sits within a site that combines the pace and flexibility of a smaller startup-style environment with the backing and stability of a large international business.
The work focuses on cutting-edge 5nm designs and includes support for the newest PCIe interfaces, related protocols, and NAND flash solutions. The team has more than ten years of SSD design experience and uses a proven approach that blends RTL design with high-speed microcode engines. This method is intended to provide flexibility when requirements change while also reducing the risk of expensive redesigns or re-spins.
The ASIC group is involved in the full development lifecycle, starting with requirements capture and architecture and continuing through development, verification, tape-out, and post-silicon support. That makes the role suitable both for engineers who want exposure to the entire flow and for those who prefer to build deeper expertise in UVM-based verification.
In this position, you will join a high-calibre SoC development team working on demanding design problems such as high-speed interfaces, high-performance accelerators, and systems with multiple CPUs. The broader team covers architecture, RTL implementation, verification, synthesis, FPGA prototyping, and validation, so the role sits in a highly collaborative engineering environment.
What you will be doing
- Supporting verification work on advanced ASIC and SoC projects, including designs with complex interfaces and performance-sensitive subsystems.
- Helping to define the functional requirements and success measures for verification environments.
- Creating and using SystemVerilog UVM testbenches to validate digital logic.
- Applying formal verification methods to prove correctness and identify issues early.
- Working with C test cases and reviewing C code as part of the verification process.
- Using scripting tools such as Python, Perl, and TCL to automate and streamline verification tasks.
- Contributing to a development flow that spans architecture, RTL, verification, tape-out, and post-silicon support.
- Collaborating with engineers across architecture, design, synthesis, prototyping, and validation.
- Participating in a methodology that combines RTL with microcode engines to improve adaptability and reduce redesign risk.
- Working on a team where engineers can either broaden their experience across the full product lifecycle or focus more deeply on verification specialism.
What the employer is looking for
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electronic engineering or a similar subject.
- Experience in digital ASIC design and verification.
- Experience defining verification environment requirements and the metrics used to judge them.
- Practical knowledge of SystemVerilog UVM testbench development.
- Experience with formal proof-based verification.
- Ability to understand C test cases and C source code.
- Familiarity with scripting languages used in engineering workflows, such as Python, Perl, or TCL.
- Preferred experience with formal verification tools such as JasperGold or VC Formal.
- Helpful background in C or C++ development.
- Prior SSD experience, especially with storage interfaces such as SAS or PCIe, with NVMe experience considered particularly valuable.
What is offered
- Competitive base pay.
- Bonus potential.
- Hybrid working.
- A generous pension arrangement.
- Private medical insurance.
- Visa sponsorship for experienced engineers.
- Relocation assistance for experienced engineers.
- The chance to work on leading-edge 5nm semiconductor technology.
- Exposure to the latest PCIe protocols and NAND flash solutions.
- A role within a major company that still offers a fast-moving, startup-like atmosphere at the UK site.
Location and lifestyle
The role is based in Oxfordshire, a location presented as offering a strong quality of life. The area combines a well-known university city with attractive countryside, good schools, cultural amenities, and convenient access to London and Heathrow, making it appealing for both professionals and families.
