An established industrial-sector company in Bristol is looking for an experienced embedded software engineer to join its team. The role focuses on creating firmware for industrial tools, along with the related interface and communications software. The position is based in Bristol and is offered with a salary of up to £55,000, plus benefits and a hybrid working arrangement.
What you will be doing
- Develop embedded firmware for industrial tools and the systems that connect and interact with them.
- Build and maintain software for device interfaces and communication functionality.
- Use embedded C and bare-metal programming techniques to deliver low-level software solutions.
- Contribute to embedded systems that may be designed around multiple threads or multiple processes.
- Work alongside the software team and the wider engineering group to keep development moving toward agreed milestones and deadlines.
- Support collaborative engineering activity so that the final solution is delivered on time and to the required standard.
What the employer is looking for
- At least four years of experience working in embedded software development.
- Strong practical knowledge of embedded C and bare-metal programming.
- Experience with industrial and embedded communications protocols such as SPI, CAN, and RS485.
- Confidence using debugging tools, including oscilloscopes and logic analysers, to investigate and resolve issues.
- Previous use of source control systems such as Git.
- A solid understanding of electronics design and how software interacts with hardware.
- Experience developing embedded solutions that use multithreading and/or multiprocessing.
- Working knowledge of UML.
- Familiarity with ARM processors and/or Microchip dsPIC architectures.
- Ability to use scripting languages such as Python where needed.
- Experience working with RTOS-based embedded systems.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both software specialists and broader engineering stakeholders.
