Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

Anaplan is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Environment Tooling team within Platform Engineering in London. The role sits at the centre of the company’s DevOps and platform transformation work and combines people leadership, operational ownership, and strategic platform development. The team is responsible for the core GitOps deployment pipeline and for tooling that improves the developer experience. Over time, its remit will broaden to include ownership of non-production environments and the creation of automated orchestration and self-healing systems that support the path to production.

In this position, you will manage a team of six engineers and report to the Senior Director of Platform Engineering. The work calls for someone who enjoys coaching talented engineers, building a strong team culture, and balancing day-to-day reliability with longer-term platform change. You will be part of a collaborative engineering community that values different perspectives, encourages bold thinking, and is focused on helping customers and colleagues succeed.

What you will do

  • Lead and develop the Environment Tooling team, supporting engineers through coaching, mentoring, career growth, and clear performance and development goals.
  • Create a healthy, inclusive, and motivated team environment while also protecting sustainable working practices and operational readiness.
  • Run the team with a pragmatic Agile approach, continuously improving processes, managing sprint commitments, removing blockers, and delivering value in small, steady increments.
  • Work closely with other platform leaders, security teams, and software engineering managers to align priorities, define responsibilities, and coordinate shared objectives.
  • Own delivery of Environment Tooling initiatives from early scoping and planning through dependency management, sequencing, milestone tracking, risk handling, and stakeholder communication.
  • Provide active engineering leadership for Argo CD and the platform’s GitOps deployment flow, including architectural hardening, scaling, and operational support.
  • Oversee the platform’s feature-flagging capability and help shape the technical strategy behind it.
  • Lead the team’s on-call arrangements so deployment pipelines remain dependable and releases can proceed smoothly, especially during important downtime windows.
  • Drive the next stage of environment strategy by establishing the team as the owner and governance authority for all non-production environments.
  • Support modern local development workflows, including Tilt-based setups on engineers’ laptops that connect to cloud-hosted services.
  • Design and build orchestration systems and platform tooling that can dismantle and recreate non-production environments on demand.
  • Develop internal capabilities that automatically create mock test data, manage environment test states, and provision test user identities.
  • Integrate orchestration workflows with infrastructure automation used for cluster provisioning and teardown, as well as with service hydration pipelines.
  • Create automated self-healing and guardrail mechanisms that can detect when a deployment has disrupted a non-production environment and trigger an immediate rollback.
  • Define and enforce standards, policies, and usage rules for non-production environments across engineering teams.

What the team works with

  • Argo CD for deployment and GitOps workflows.
  • LaunchDarkly for feature flagging.
  • Tilt for developer tooling.
  • Kubernetes on EKS and GKE, plus Docker, Terraform, Helm, and Kubernetes operators for infrastructure and orchestration.
  • Infrastructure automation and service hydration pipelines for internal platform workflows.
  • AWS and GCP as cloud platforms.
  • Go and Java as the main programming languages in use.

What Anaplan is looking for

  • Experience leading platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering teams, either as a people manager or as a senior technical lead who has influenced important technical decisions.
  • Evidence of mentoring engineers and helping teams grow technically and professionally.
  • For candidates new to management, strong leadership potential and relevant lead experience are welcomed.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud-native architecture, GitOps practices, Argo CD, infrastructure as code, and container orchestration.
  • A practical, iterative mindset that focuses on delivering useful outcomes early and often rather than waiting for a single perfect release.
  • A genuine interest in improving developer experience and building self-service platform tooling that reduces friction for engineers.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to set expectations, keep roadmaps visible, and establish technical governance.
  • Comfort working in a collaborative environment that values diverse perspectives and is willing to challenge assumptions and push boundaries.
  • Familiarity with the technologies used by the team, including Argo CD, LaunchDarkly, Tilt, Kubernetes on EKS or GKE, Docker, Terraform, Helm, Kubernetes operators, infrastructure automation, service hydration pipelines, AWS, GCP, Go, and Java.
