Bank of America is recruiting a summer analyst for its Global Capital Markets programme in London, with exposure across Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, and the Sustainable Solutions Group. The role is designed for students who want a broad introduction to capital markets work while still gaining meaningful experience in one of these specialist teams. Successful candidates may be placed in any of the four areas after the selection process, although applicants can indicate a preference.

The business helps clients access financial markets and develop tailored capital markets solutions for a wide range of objectives. The client base includes investment-grade and sub-investment-grade corporates, financial institutions, private equity firms, and sovereign, supranational, and agency issuers. The programme also sits within a workplace culture that emphasises responsible growth, inclusion, teammate wellbeing, and performance, and the bank notes that it operates with an in-office culture that includes role-dependent flexibility.

Programme overview

This summer analyst programme is intended to give participants a wide-ranging experience within one of the Global Capital Markets teams, while also providing contact with the other groups across the summer. Candidates may express a preference for DCM, ECM, Leveraged Finance, or SSG, but final placement may be in any of the four teams.

Training and development are highlighted as a major focus of the programme. Analysts receive formal training at the beginning of the internship, along with support on the job, speaker sessions, and mentorship throughout the placement.

About the teams

Debt Capital Markets works on products such as bonds, loans, capital products, liability management, and foreign exchange and rates solutions.

Equity Capital Markets covers transactions including initial public offerings, accelerated bookbuilds, rights issues, convertible bonds, and bespoke derivative transactions.

Leveraged Finance provides leveraged loans and high-yield bonds to support acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, take-private transactions, dividend recapitalisations, and refinancings for sub-investment-grade issuers and private equity portfolio companies.

The Sustainable Solutions Group advises clients on sustainability-related issues that affect financing, valuation, and strategic decisions. It works closely with colleagues in Investment Banking, Debt Capital Markets, and Equity Capital Markets to deliver sustainable finance solutions and insights that support long-term client goals.

What you will do

  • Support product specialists in working directly with clients, including senior management teams, to help shape and deliver financing solutions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of market conditions and use that knowledge to contribute to discussions about financing strategies that meet client needs.
  • Create tailored presentation materials for clients that explain financing options, including general corporate purposes, sustainability-focused financings, and acquisition-related funding.
  • Participate in live transactions and collaborate with colleagues across the bank as you build your network and gain practical exposure.
  • Work with Investment Banking and Corporate Banking teams on client coverage and origination activity.
  • Deepen your understanding of how investors factor sustainability into their investment decisions.
  • Coordinate and help manage live deal execution with sales teams and traders in Global Markets, while staying informed through liaison with Global Research on market developments.

Who can apply

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree programme and be due to complete their studies between June 2027 and July 2028. Completion means all exams, coursework, and graduation requirements must be finished. The bank may ask for proof of this timing before making an offer.

Candidates should be on course for at least a 2:1 degree classification, or an equivalent result. Applications are open to students from a broad range of disciplines, including arts and humanities as well as numerically focused subjects such as economics and mathematics. The posting also notes that science and engineering backgrounds are welcome.

English fluency is essential, and knowledge of a European language is considered an advantage. For regional roles, the local language is required. The bank also states that candidates who perform well during the internship may be offered a full-time position starting in July 2028, with some businesses also offering January or April 2028 start dates. If offered one of these start dates, you must be available to begin then, as deferrals are not permitted.

Skills and qualities sought

  • For Leveraged Finance applicants, prior finance-related coursework or internship experience is preferred.
  • A genuine interest in financial markets, along with drive, initiative, and innovation.
  • Strong teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Creativity and the ability to contribute in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working with multiple priorities and interacting with a wide range of people.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is desirable.
