GPU Compiler Engineer Overview

Company Name IC Resources Recruitment
Job Role GPU Compiler Engineer
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

This is a senior compiler engineering opportunity with a large, internationally established technology business that is growing a new compiler team in Cambridge. The work is centered on production compiler technology that operates at global scale and is closely connected to next-generation silicon. Although the team collaborates with GPU and accelerator hardware, the position itself is primarily focused on backend compiler engineering rather than GPU-specific development.

The employer is looking for someone who can contribute at a high level to low-level compiler architecture and performance-sensitive implementation work. Deep GPU experience is not a prerequisite; instead, the emphasis is on strong compiler fundamentals, solid backend knowledge, and the ability to solve complex technical problems near the hardware/software boundary.

What you will do

  • Build and enhance LLVM backend compiler capabilities for a production environment.
  • Develop and refine backend mechanisms such as instruction selection, scheduling, register allocation, and code emission.
  • Improve generated code so that it performs well, uses power efficiently, and remains correct across target scenarios.
  • Partner with hardware architects and systems engineers to ensure the compiler aligns with the needs of new silicon and accelerator platforms.
  • Design, grow, and maintain test coverage, benchmark suites, and validation systems that support reliable compiler development.
  • Track down and fix intricate low-level issues that may involve both compiler internals and hardware behavior.

What the employer is looking for

  • Extensive experience in compiler development, with LLVM backend work strongly preferred.
  • Excellent C and C++ programming skills, plus broader systems-level engineering experience.
  • A strong grasp of computer architecture and the performance characteristics that influence low-level software.
  • Background in performance-critical software or engineering work that sits close to hardware.
  • The ability to operate at a senior level and contribute to important technical decisions.
  • Confidence working on complex backend problems without needing prior GPU-specific experience.

Package and support

  • Base salary of £85,000.
  • Additional compensation through attractive RSU and bonus arrangements.
  • Relocation support for moving to Cambridge.
  • Visa support available for suitable candidates.
  • The chance to join a newly forming compiler team inside a major global technology organization.
  • Work on compiler technology that has real production impact and is tightly integrated with advanced hardware development.

Working arrangement

This position is onsite in Cambridge, England. The posting indicates that the role is not remote and is intended for someone able to work from the Cambridge location.
