Staff FPGA Engineer Overview

An opportunity is available for an experienced FPGA engineer to join a deep-tech networking company building the next generation of interconnect technology for AI and high-performance computing environments. The business is developing ultra-high-speed networking solutions aimed at future data centre infrastructure, and the successful candidate will become part of a growing hardware team working on advanced, production-focused technology.

The role centres on FPGA-based interfaces that sit between accelerators, processors, and high-bandwidth network architectures. You will be involved across the full development lifecycle, from defining the architecture through to RTL implementation, verification, and lab validation. The work is focused on creating systems that can sustain extremely high throughput while also remaining efficient and scalable.

What you will be doing

• Design FPGA-based interfaces that connect accelerators, processors, and high-bandwidth networking fabrics.
• Help shape the architecture of next-generation networking hardware for AI and high-performance computing use cases.
• Write RTL and develop high-speed FPGA logic that meets demanding performance requirements.
• Carry out verification activities to confirm correctness and robustness of the design.
• Test and validate hardware in the lab, ensuring the solution performs as expected in real-world conditions.
• Improve and tune FPGA implementations to achieve the required throughput, efficiency, and scalability.
• Support customer evaluation platforms so external users can assess the technology.
• Work in close partnership with software and systems teams to move solutions toward production readiness.
• Contribute to a hardware team building advanced networking products for future data centre deployments.

What the employer is looking for

• Proven experience developing FPGA solutions.
• Hands-on capability with hardware description languages such as SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL.
• Experience in high-speed networking or accelerator interconnect work.
• Understanding of relevant protocols and standards, including PCIe, RDMA, CXL, NVLink, or similar technologies.
• Practical knowledge of FPGA development flows, including synthesis, timing closure, and verification.
• Exposure to tools such as Vivado, Quartus, Questa, or VCS.
• Ability to script in Python or TCL.
• Additional experience with Versal, Agilex, embedded processors, or device-driver-level software would strengthen an application.
• Comfort working across architecture, implementation, verification, and lab-based testing.
• Interest in building advanced networking hardware for AI and HPC applications.
