Job Type Full Time
Location Rest of UK

This opportunity is for an experienced lead embedded software engineer to take ownership of the design, development, and delivery of embedded software for innovative electric drive systems. The position is based in Norfolk and sits within a fast-moving engineering environment where the software must support demanding requirements around performance, safety, reliability, and overall product functionality.

The role calls for someone who can provide technical leadership across the full software development process. You would be expected to help shape the software from the earliest requirements and architecture stages through to implementation, verification, validation, release, and configuration management. A major part of the job is ensuring that the software is well planned, carefully documented, organised, and delivered to a high standard.

What you will be doing

  • Leading the design, development, and delivery of embedded software for electric drive applications.
  • Providing technical leadership across all software engineering activities, making sure the resulting software is robust, scalable, and of high quality.
  • Owning and guiding software planning, documentation, organisation, and delivery management throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Working across requirements, architecture, design, implementation, verification, validation, release, and configuration control.
  • Defining software architecture and ensuring it integrates effectively with hardware, control systems, and other product or vehicle subsystems.
  • Collaborating closely with hardware engineers, controls engineers, systems engineers, and test teams to deliver a cohesive electric drive solution.
  • Leading software engineering teams in a small to medium-sized, fast-paced engineering setting.
  • Contributing technical expertise across embedded software areas such as base software, application software, motor control, DC-DC control, inverter control, diagnostics, and real-time systems.

What the employer is looking for

  • Strong, demonstrable experience developing embedded software for electric drive systems.
  • Proven ability to lead software engineering teams and provide effective technical direction.
  • Practical expertise in base software, application software, motor control algorithms, DC-DC control algorithms, inverter control, diagnostics, and real-time systems.
  • Solid capability in software planning and delivery management across the full development lifecycle.
  • Experience creating and maintaining clear documentation and keeping engineering work well organised.
  • Ability to define software architecture and ensure it works well with hardware and wider system design.
  • Experience working collaboratively with hardware, controls, systems, and test disciplines.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and engineering practices, including ISO 26262, MISRA C, and ASPICE.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with a small to medium-sized engineering team.

Package and working arrangement

The role offers a salary of £70,000 to £80,000, along with benefits and hybrid working.

This is a Norfolk-based position with a hybrid pattern, giving a mix of office and remote working.
