An international employer is seeking a senior photolithography specialist to take the lead on developing, improving, and transferring advanced lithography processes for semiconductor devices. The role spans the full journey from research and development through to high-volume manufacturing, with a strong focus on photonic applications and process scale-up.
What you will do
- Own the development and optimisation of photolithography processes for photonic devices.
- Support both R&D wafers and manufacturing wafers, helping move processes into large-scale production.
- Manage lithography equipment setup, calibration, maintenance, and day-to-day performance.
- Work in close partnership with design, integration, facilities, epitaxy, etching, and testing teams to keep process work aligned across the organisation.
- Create and maintain process control strategies, characterisation approaches, and standards for yield and reliability.
- Investigate lithography and process-related issues, identify root causes, and implement improvements.
- Research emerging lithography methods, materials, and technologies, then introduce the most suitable options into the process flow.
- Provide technical leadership and direct R&D projects so they support the company’s wider goals.
What the employer is looking for
- A PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline.
- More than 12 years of experience in photolithography, ideally gained in compound semiconductors or photonics.
- Deep familiarity with mask design, resist chemistry and selection, and cleanroom lithography equipment such as steppers, aligners, and spin coaters.
- Experience using characterisation and measurement tools including SEM, AFM, and profilometers.
- Strong knowledge of photonics, optoelectronics, and semiconductor manufacturing.
- Capability in data analysis, statistical process control, troubleshooting, leadership, and clear communication.
- Preferred experience in optoelectronic device fabrication.
- Preferred knowledge of semiconductor process integration and full fabrication workflows.
- Useful familiarity with industry standards relevant to optical and photonics manufacturing.
Package and location
- The position is based in Suffolk, England.
- The employer is advertising a leading salary level along with company benefits.
