Location Glasgow

Capgemini Invent is looking for an experienced Managing Consultant or Senior Manager to join its Energy Retail team within Energy Transition & Utilities. The role sits in a consulting environment focused on helping clients navigate major change across the energy sector, combining strategy, creativity, science, data, design, and technology to deliver practical transformation outcomes. The team works with organisations facing today’s and tomorrow’s challenges, with a particular emphasis on the energy transition and the opportunities it creates for both industry and society.

In this position, you will take a leading role in shaping and delivering large, complex transformation programmes for major organisations. You will guide clients from early strategic thinking through to execution, acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders and helping them make decisions that are both innovative and realistic. The role requires someone who can lead cross-functional teams, influence at senior levels, and ensure that solutions are grounded in the realities of the business while still pushing for meaningful change.

You will also be expected to contribute directly to the growth of the practice. That includes identifying opportunities for improvement with clients, developing proposals, responding to requests for proposals, creating new propositions, leading pitches, and representing the team at events. In addition to client delivery and business development, you will help strengthen the Energy & Utilities practice itself by contributing to thought leadership, supporting operational improvements, helping with recruitment, taking part in team events, and developing colleagues.

The work is centred on energy retail transformation, with a strong focus on helping clients redesign customer journeys, build change roadmaps, align business transformation with technology transformation, and establish new AI-enabled and agentic services. The role is intended to drive better operational performance, lower costs, improve customer experience, and increase competitiveness in the market. Capgemini is particularly interested in people who understand the GB retail energy market deeply and who can bring both consulting capability and industry knowledge to bear on client problems.

What you will do

  • Lead complex transformation programmes for large organisations, taking responsibility from strategy through to delivery.
  • Advise senior client leaders and help them respond to disruption, change, and operational pressure.
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that are creative, effective, and practical.
  • Support business growth by spotting client improvement opportunities, preparing proposals, answering RFPs, building new offerings, and leading client pitches.
  • Represent and grow the practice through thought leadership, operational contribution, recruitment support, team-building activity, and people development.
  • Work with clients on customer journey redesign, change roadmaps, business and technology alignment, and the introduction of AI and agentic services.
  • Improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and help clients strengthen customer experience and market position.
  • Apply knowledge of the GB retail energy market to issues affecting B2C and B2B retail energy businesses, including billing, CRM, debt management, and operating model improvement.
  • Identify and apply emerging technologies, including generative and agentic AI, to accelerate delivery and improve business results.

What the role requires

  • At least 8 years of consulting experience or relevant industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the GB retail energy market, gained through work with energy retail suppliers and/or code managers.
  • Relevant insight, relationships, and experience with the organisations and programmes that matter in this sector.
  • A hands-on approach to change delivery, with a willingness to actively help solve client problems rather than simply oversee them.
  • Experience managing teams and multiple workstreams in complex delivery environments.
  • Experience supporting practice development, team building, and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Experience delivering technology-led transformation in energy retail.
  • Experience in customer experience strategy, including designing approaches that improve engagement, satisfaction, and alignment to business goals.
  • Experience transforming customer journeys end to end, including journey mapping, identifying pain and gain points, assessing improvement opportunities using AI and digital methods, and delivering change in an agile way.
  • Experience with CRM and billing platforms, including re-platforming and end-to-end solution design across business, customer, and operational domains.
  • Experience improving operations and service through new ways of working, operating model transformation, and organisation design that supports growth and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience helping clients manage major market, regulatory, or industry change while maintaining continuity and adapting quickly.
  • Ability to use generative and agentic AI to address energy retail challenges and improve delivery and outcomes.
  • Business development experience that has helped generate new business through existing relationships, the wider organisation’s network, and your own contacts.

Why this opportunity stands out

The energy transition is presented as a defining challenge for this generation, but also as a major opportunity to create cleaner, more affordable, and more abundant energy systems that support wider economic and social progress. Capgemini sees the move to clean energy as essential not only for the energy sector itself, but also for every other industry working toward net zero. The company also highlights the human side of the transition, including stronger customer relationships, improved consumer perception, and better talent attraction. The team’s purpose is to help energy and utilities organisations capture the economic and societal value of this transition and contribute to a better future.

Working environment and culture

Capgemini says inclusion is an active commitment rather than just a principle, and that it aims to create an environment where people can bring their whole selves to work. The organisation also places strong emphasis on work-life balance and has embedded hybrid working into its normal ways of working. Flexible working arrangements are available to all UK employees, and the company notes that employee wellbeing is a key priority.

To support wellbeing, Capgemini has trained Mental Health Champions across its business areas and provides access to wellbeing apps such as Thrive and Peppy. The company is also a Disability Confident Employer at Level 2 under the UK Government scheme. As part of its inclusive recruitment approach, it will offer an interview to candidates who declare a disability and meet the minimum essential criteria, provided they opt in during the application process.

The company also describes its broader corporate responsibility focus, including using technology for positive social impact, reducing its own carbon footprint, and improving access to the digital world. It notes recognition as one of the world’s most ethical companies by the Ethisphere Institute for the tenth year and says that joining the business means joining a team committed to doing the right thing.

Location, flexibility, and travel

The role has an office base in London, Manchester, or Glasgow. However, the successful candidate must be fully flexible about assignment location, because the work may involve spending periods away from home at short notice.

Pay and other rewards

Capgemini says the role comes with a remuneration package that includes flexible benefits that can be chosen to suit personal circumstances. The package also includes a variable pay component linked to grade, company performance, and individual performance.
