This opportunity is designed for people with military experience who want to bring their leadership and operational skills into the private sector. The position is for an Area Manager in a fulfillment center, where the work sits at the center of Amazon’s operations network. These sites handle inventory flow and support the processes that keep customer orders moving efficiently. The role is part of the company’s effort to improve customer service at scale and to keep building more effective ways of working across its logistics network.

What you will do

  • Take responsibility for one of the main operational teams in the fulfillment center, such as receiving, stowing, picking, packing, or shipping.
  • Lead a team of around 80 to 120 associates and make sure the group is working effectively toward operational goals.
  • Support the onboarding, training, and integration of new team members so they can settle into the operation successfully.
  • Keep the team motivated, engaged, and moving forward while maintaining focus on performance and delivery targets.
  • Use good judgment to keep work aligned with key metrics and to help ensure targets are achieved.
  • Help make sure customer expectations are met or exceeded by keeping workflows running smoothly.
  • Promote Amazon’s health and safety standards and put team safety first in day-to-day operations.
  • Work with colleagues from other functions to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational problems.
  • Maintain high standards for process quality across the area you lead.
  • Protect inventory accuracy and help ensure records remain dependable.
  • Look for opportunities to improve processes, remove inefficiencies, and simplify how work is done.
  • Develop strong knowledge of broader fulfillment center processes so you can act as a go-to expert.
  • Share effective working methods and best practices with teammates and wider internal networks.

What Amazon is looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification or background, in business, operations, logistics, supply chain, or engineering.
  • Experience collaborating across functions and building effective working relationships with people at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience leading teams, shaping behavior, and influencing others toward shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and carry out root-cause analysis.
  • Comfort handling complex work quickly and with little direction, including situations that require a fast response.
  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Preferred background in a distribution center, logistics operation, or manufacturing environment.
  • Military experience is the focus for this role, and Amazon is specifically encouraging candidates from that background to apply.
