AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating the global infrastructure that powers AWS. That includes the data centres and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems that keep customer services available. The team works on highly complex problems with many moving parts across the supply chain, and it brings together software engineers, hardware engineers, network specialists, supply chain experts, security professionals, operations managers, and other critical roles. The culture is described as inclusive, with an emphasis on bold ideas and taking ownership through to delivery.
AWS is seeking a Network Deployment Engineer to help build Amazon Dedicated Cloud regions within the Infrastructure Operations organisation. As these dedicated cloud regions continue to grow, the team needs people who can help scale network systems and stay ahead of customer demand. In this role, you will support the stability and long-term sustainability of next-generation networks while also helping to develop better ways to automate and scale network deployment work.
What you will do
- Support the expansion of network infrastructure across several data centre sites, helping ensure capacity is available as demand increases.
- Work closely with internal partners and external suppliers to keep deployment projects moving, following direction from Technical Program Managers.
- Keep leadership and project managers informed by clearly explaining project progress, risks, and any blockers.
- Carry out device build work and confirm that cabling has been installed correctly.
- Oversee cabling vendors and complete quality assurance checks on their work.
- Assist with network engineering deployment tasks during planned change windows.
- Take part in migrations, which may sometimes happen outside standard business hours, and help with the basic setup and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
- Respond to customer requests through the Remedy ticketing system.
- Work with different stakeholders to remove issues that could delay delivery.
- Diagnose and fix networking, routing, and connectivity issues, including problems involving device configuration and low-level application behaviour.
- Build simple, reliable, and repeatable processes and solutions that improve operational consistency.
- Track, organise, and prioritise work using ticketing and workflow tools.
- Contribute to the improvement of tools, operating practices, and procedures so the team can deploy and support networks more effectively.
- Take part in the everyday rhythm of the team, including meetings, change management activities in the data centre, hardware deployment, cabling work, link troubleshooting, ticket updates, and collaborative problem-solving across AWS.
What the team is looking for
- Experience in a data centre or another critical operational environment.
- Hands-on familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- A high school qualification or equivalent, or equivalent practical experience with cabling infrastructure standards and methods.
- Substantial experience supporting enterprise-scale networks.
- Strong ability to implement and troubleshoot network systems.
- A disciplined and effective documentation approach.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills.
- Comfort working directly with colleagues, customers, and vendors in a fast-paced setting.
- A highly self-directed working style and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Additional experience in networking, Linux administration, Microsoft administration, or Cisco network configuration and management is considered an advantage.
