This opportunity is with a specialist electronics manufacturer developing RF and mmWave technology for demanding communications applications. The business is expanding its manufacturing capability and is focused on turning sophisticated designs into production processes that are stable, repeatable, and ready to scale. The role is based in County Durham, England.
The position is centered on introducing new products into manufacturing in a controlled and practical way. As the NPI Engineer, you will be responsible for guiding RF and microwave assemblies from prototype and early build stages through to volume production, making sure the transition into manufacturing is well planned, well documented, and technically robust.
What you will do
- Take ownership of the move from prototype builds into production, ensuring the transfer is managed carefully and effectively.
- Plan and support pilot builds, addressing issues as they arise during the introduction phase.
- Work with design engineers to make products easier and more reliable to manufacture, including design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly improvements.
- Establish production processes, define tooling needs, and produce clear work instructions for manufacturing teams.
- Create process flows, control plans, and the supporting documentation needed to keep production consistent and controlled.
- Help drive production ramp-up activity and contribute to improvements in yield and efficiency.
- Carry out root-cause analysis and structured problem solving using approaches such as 8D, DMAIC, and FMEA.
- Partner with design, quality, and production colleagues to ensure manufacturing readiness and practical process control.
What the employer is looking for
- Previous experience working as an NPI Engineer or in a similar role focused on manufacturing and product introduction.
- Experience in electronics manufacturing or another environment where reliability and process discipline are important.
- A track record of taking products from development or prototype stages into production.
- Solid understanding of process control and what is required to prepare a product for manufacturing at scale.
- Confidence working across design, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and improve manufacturability.
- An engineering qualification, or equivalent practical hands-on experience gained in a relevant setting.
- Familiarity with structured improvement and problem-solving methods such as 8D, DMAIC, and FMEA.
- Suitability for someone who wants to stay close to the manufacturing process and make a visible impact on how products are built and scaled.
Why this role may appeal to you
This is a straightforward opportunity to work on technically challenging RF and mmWave products without unnecessary layers of management. It is well suited to someone who enjoys being close to the shop floor, solving practical manufacturing problems, and helping move advanced technology from development into reliable production.
