This permanent Power Electronics Engineer position is based in Newcastle upon Tyne and offers a salary of up to £70,000. The employer is a fast-growing technology company building high-voltage server systems for quantum analytics, and the role comes with full visa sponsorship support.
Role overview
You will be responsible for designing and developing high-power conversion systems above 10 kW, working across AC-AC, DC-DC and DC-AC platforms. The position covers the full engineering lifecycle, from early-stage simulation and modelling through prototype build, testing, validation and support for certification activities. It is a hands-on role for an engineer who can contribute to the development of next-generation hardware in a demanding, high-performance environment.
What you will do
- Develop advanced converter concepts and detailed designs for high-power systems, using PLECS, CADSTAR or similar engineering tools.
- Build and refine models to support design decisions and system performance analysis.
- Test prototypes across functional, thermal and electrical dimensions, then use the findings to improve the hardware.
- Prepare technical documentation, including safety-related files required for approvals and compliance.
- Support EMC and power compliance testing, and help implement design changes that reduce risk and improve performance.
- Apply knowledge of wide-bandgap technologies, particularly silicon-carbide-based solutions, in practical design work.
- Contribute to the development of high-voltage server hardware used in quantum analytics applications.
What the employer is looking for
- A strong foundation in power electronics design, including control methods and system simulation.
- Practical experience with analogue and digital circuit development.
- Good understanding of switching devices, thermal management and electromagnetic assembly issues.
- Awareness of embedded control behaviour and EMC considerations.
- Experience with wide-bandgap power technologies, especially SiC systems, is particularly valuable.
- Background in energy, industrial or other high-power product development would be an advantage.
- A current CV is required when applying through KO2 Embedded Recruitment Solutions.
