This role sits within the Platform & Data Product organization inside Expedia Groupâs broader Product function. The team is responsible for the core data and AI capabilities that support the companyâs global travel ecosystem. Its scope includes data products, enterprise data domains, analytics platforms, AI and machine learning platforms, streaming and experimentation platforms, metrics platforms, and the governance and quality systems that support all of these areas. The organization works closely with engineering teams across the business to build scalable, dependable, and AI-ready data infrastructure.
The company is looking for a Principal Product Manager with deep experience in data platforms who can take ownership of major product capabilities across this portfolio. The role is intended for someone who can lead strategy, drive adoption, and deliver measurable outcomes wherever experienced leadership is most needed.
What you will do
- Set the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for one or more data platform capabilities.
- Convert complex technical and business requirements into clear priorities that are tied to measurable outcomes.
- Design and deliver scalable platform capabilities across the full data lifecycle, including ingestion, quality and observability, governance and access control, metadata and discoverability, metrics and semantic layers, and infrastructure that supports AI and machine learning use cases.
- Build reliable, trusted platform experiences for engineers, analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
- Help reduce manual work, improve confidence in data quality, and speed up the time it takes users to get insight from data.
- Embed AI-driven functionality to improve discovery, automate quality checks, support natural-language access to data, and enable agentic analytics scenarios.
- Turn platform needs and business needs into a practical roadmap and prioritize work based on impact, feasibility, and measurable results.
- Partner with engineering, data, analytics, and business teams to deliver platform solutions that span multiple connected capabilities.
- Define and monitor adoption and impact measures such as usage, reliability, cost efficiency, time-to-insight, and user satisfaction.
- Assess trade-offs and continuously improve the platform based on evidence and feedback.
- Advocate for platform quality, scalability, and governance while encouraging broad adoption across the company.
- Help position the data platform as a trusted self-service foundation for the organization.
What you need
- A bachelorâs degree or equivalent professional experience.
- More than 10 years of experience in product management or a similar technology role, including ownership of complex platform or data products.
- Experience leading data-centric platforms such as data infrastructure, analytics enablement, data quality frameworks, metrics platforms, governance systems, and data catalog or discovery tools.
- A strong background in data analysis, analytics, or data engineering, along with a strong understanding of data ecosystems and workflows.
- A proven record of defining and executing product strategy and roadmaps for complex, cross-functional data platforms that create measurable business impact.
- Technical understanding of APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems, including experience with always-on data platforms and data flow architectures.
- Experience collaborating closely with engineering and data teams to deliver sophisticated platform capabilities.
- Experience setting adoption and success metrics for platform products and using those measures to guide decisions.
- Ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams on prioritization, governance, and trade-offs.
- Ability to communicate the business value of data platform investment in a clear and compelling way.
- Preferred experience: leading enterprise-scale data platforms with broad use across multiple domains or capability areas.
- Preferred experience: governance, data quality, and self-service enablement across different user groups.
- Preferred experience: metadata and catalog experiences, data quality and observability, metrics and semantic layers, experimentation frameworks, and data contracts.
- Preferred experience: building or integrating AI and machine learning platform capabilities such as semantic search, recommendation systems, natural-language query interfaces, and agentic data access.
- Preferred experience: influencing architecture and operating models without direct authority in a matrixed engineering organization.
- Preferred experience: using data to measure platform adoption, product health, and operational performance across multiple connected capabilities.
