Product Engineer Overview

This opportunity is with a fast-growing technology business in London that is building a product designed to solve genuine customer problems. The role is framed very differently from a conventional software developer position: the company wants someone who can think like a founder, understand the commercial problem behind the work, make sensible technical decisions, and deliver features that have a direct effect on revenue and growth.

What you will do

• Take responsibility for features from the moment a customer problem is identified through to the point where the solution is deployed and in use.
• Choose technical approaches and shape architecture with business impact in mind, rather than treating engineering decisions as purely technical exercises.
• Develop across the full stack, using JavaScript and TypeScript on both the client and server sides.
• Collaborate closely with founders and product leaders to decide what should be built next and how best to deliver it.
• Move quickly, release work frequently, and refine features using evidence from actual product usage.
• Operate as a product engineer who is accountable for outcomes, not simply as someone completing assigned development tasks.

Technology environment

• Backend development with Node.js.
• Frontend development with React.
• Database work using PostgreSQL.
• Cloud infrastructure on AWS.
• Use of modern tooling, with the expectation that the best tools for the problem will be chosen as needed.

What the company is looking for

• A strong academic background, ideally from a Russell Group university or an equivalent institution.
• A degree at first-class or 2:1 level in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, or a closely related subject.
• Three to seven years of experience building production software in JavaScript or TypeScript environments.
• The ability to reason from first principles and build solutions without relying only on framework-level wiring.
• A clear understanding of the commercial purpose of features and how engineering work supports the business.
• A demonstrated history of owning work end to end and delivering results, not just producing code.
• Confidence working in a product-focused environment where autonomy and impact matter.
