RF Lead Engineer Overview

Company Name IC Resources Recruitment
Job Role RF Lead Engineer
Qualifications Bachelor’s
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

This opportunity is with a well-funded, rapidly expanding semiconductor business developing the next generation of RF technology for mobile and connected devices. The company is working to simplify RF front-end architecture at a system level so that connectivity can be delivered more efficiently and at greater scale across a broad range of applications.

In this role, you would help turn advanced RF concepts into practical hardware. You would work closely with architecture, systems, and other engineering functions to move designs from early ideas through to validation and eventual deployment. The position combines deep technical work with leadership responsibilities, so it suits someone who enjoys both hands-on engineering and guiding others.

What you would do

  • Lead RF design activity so it aligns with system-level requirements and broader product goals.
  • Take responsibility for the performance, implementation, and delivery of RF subsystems.
  • Run and contribute to design reviews, including providing technical approval where appropriate.
  • Design and simulate RF circuits such as LNAs, PAs, filters, and duplexers.
  • Translate architectural requirements into detailed RF designs that can be built and tested.
  • Improve RF performance while working within the limits of the wider system.
  • Plan and carry out RF testing and validation work, including the creation of test plans.
  • Review and interpret measurement results such as S-parameters, noise figure, EVM, ACPR, phase noise, and linearity.
  • Investigate RF problems, debug issues, and lead root-cause analysis when performance does not meet expectations.
  • Support and mentor RF engineers in the team, helping them grow technically and professionally.
  • Promote good engineering habits, including strong documentation and disciplined development practices.
  • Work across functions with system architects and other engineering teams on technical decisions, planning, and risk management.
  • Contribute to manufacturing support and production test activities so designs can transition successfully into real products.

What the employer is looking for

  • A degree in RF engineering, electronics, physics, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong practical experience in RF design across relevant frequency ranges.
  • A proven record of delivering RF projects at senior or lead level.
  • Good theoretical knowledge of RF principles, combined with the ability to apply that knowledge in real-world hardware.
  • Experience with RF design and simulation software such as ADS, AWR, CST, and HFSS.
  • Confidence using RF lab equipment, including vector network analysers, spectrum analysers, signal generators, and related tools.
  • A delivery-oriented approach, with the ability to work effectively in a technically demanding environment.
  • Comfort operating in a setting where architecture and product implementation are closely linked.
  • The ability to combine technical depth with leadership and mentoring responsibilities.

Package and benefits

  • Competitive salary.
  • Pension.
  • Share options.
  • 25 days of holiday in addition to bank holidays.
  • Private medical cover.
  • Life assurance.
  • Income protection.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Access to an additional benefits platform.

Why this role stands out

This is a chance to shape how RF systems are designed and delivered in next-generation wireless products. It is a strong match for someone who enjoys combining advanced technical engineering with leadership and wants to see their work progress into real-world deployment.
