An innovative, venture-backed semiconductor business is expanding its engineering team in Cambridge and is seeking an RF Test Engineer to support the development of next-generation RF technology. The company is building highly integrated RF solutions intended to simplify front-end architectures for mobile and connected devices, with the broader aim of enabling reliable global connectivity through manufacturable, high-performance products.
This position sits at the point where RF design meets measured hardware performance. The successful engineer will help ensure that simulation results line up closely with real-world behaviour, working alongside design and systems specialists to support the delivery of advanced RF products.
What the role involves
The RF Test Engineer will take ownership of detailed RF measurement work, help shape dependable test methods, and feed back practical findings to the wider engineering organisation. The role calls for someone who is meticulous, technically strong in RF measurement, and able to create test environments that are both stable and repeatable.
- Carry out detailed RF measurements to evaluate how devices and systems perform.
- Run RF measurements aligned to 3GPP expectations, covering LTE and/or NR transmitter and receiver testing.
- Build, improve, and maintain test setups that can be relied on for repeatable product characterisation.
- Use measurement results to inform RF design and systems teams, helping guide optimisation and integration work.
- Keep documentation of procedures, results, and measurement methods clear, structured, and accurate.
- Work with engineers across functions to define measurement strategies and testing needs.
- Develop scripts and automation for RF test systems to improve repeatability and efficiency.
- Ensure testing is performed using sound RF practice, relevant standards, and calibrated measurement processes.
- Contribute to design reviews and share observations based on measured data.
- Diagnose and resolve issues affecting RF measurements or test setups.
What the employer is looking for
Applicants should have a degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a similar discipline, along with a solid grounding in RF theory and practical lab work. The company is looking for someone who understands the technical details behind RF performance and can translate that knowledge into dependable measurement and test execution.
- A degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals, including S-parameters, impedance matching, gain, noise figure, and linearity.
- Experience using RF test equipment such as vector network analysers, spectrum analysers, and signal generators.
- Practical experience with 3GPP RF measurements for LTE and/or NR.
- Experience creating repeatable RF measurement setups and automating test processes.
- Ability to interpret RF schematics and system-level diagrams.
- Understanding of RF system behaviour, including gain, noise, linearity, matching, and modulation-related effects.
- Programming or scripting experience for automation, using Python, MATLAB, or a similar language.
- Practical laboratory experience, including PCB soldering and hardware debugging.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- A careful, detail-oriented approach with a focus on measurement quality and accuracy.
- A proactive attitude and comfort working in a fast-changing technical environment.
