This is a remote UK-based opportunity for a Technical Sales Manager to join a growing commercial team at a European manufacturer specialising in photonics and fibre-optics. The business creates highly specialised optical and fibre-based solutions used across industrial, scientific, and infrastructure settings around the world. The role sits at the point where engineering expertise and commercial planning overlap, making it well suited to someone who can understand complex technology and turn that understanding into business growth.
The successful person will help expand the company’s customer base while also strengthening relationships with existing accounts. A key part of the job is to work closely with engineers, researchers, and other technically minded decision-makers to understand what they need from a solution and then help shape a tailored commercial response. This is not a standard catalogue-sales position; it is a consultative role focused on specialist products and bespoke applications.
What you will do
- Take responsibility for technical sales activity within a commercial team focused on photonics and fibre-optics.
- Turn detailed technical concepts into clear commercial opportunities that customers can understand and act on.
- Build, manage, and grow relationships with existing customers over the long term.
- Identify new prospects and develop opportunities in important target markets.
- Work alongside engineers, scientists, and technical stakeholders to define application requirements.
- Help create tailored solutions that match customer needs rather than promoting standard off-the-shelf products.
- Contribute to the company’s growth at a key stage in its expansion.
What the employer is looking for
- A background in photonics, optics, fibre optics, physics, engineering, or another closely related technical discipline.
- Experience in sales, applications engineering, business development, or another role involving direct customer interaction would be an advantage.
- Strong technical understanding and the ability to communicate that knowledge in a commercially effective way.
- Confidence working with technical customers and decision-makers on complex, application-specific solutions.
- Applicants from highly technical backgrounds who want to move into a commercial role will also be considered.
- The ability to support relationship building, opportunity development, and business growth in a specialist technology environment.
