This role sits within Arm’s Automation Tools team and focuses on building the automation platforms that support a hybrid infrastructure and compute estate. The position is centered on improving reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency through well-designed automation frameworks and tooling. The team works closely with development, operations, engineering, and IT colleagues to simplify deployment, configuration, system administration, and lifecycle management across the environment.

The work includes deploying and operating automation tools and related frameworks across the hybrid estate and compute clusters. The role is suited to someone who enjoys solving infrastructure challenges, improving operational processes, and helping large-scale systems run more smoothly through automation.

What you will do

  • Design, build, deploy, and support automation solutions for hybrid infrastructure and compute environments.
  • Develop and maintain automation code and workflows using infrastructure-as-code methods, Python, Bash, and configuration management tooling.
  • Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines to make software and infrastructure delivery more efficient.
  • Investigate infrastructure incidents and service issues, identify the root cause, and implement automated remediation where possible.
  • Maintain and improve the automation frameworks used across the estate, including tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, GitLab, Vault, and Foreman.
  • Write clear and useful documentation covering tools, processes, and operational procedures so the team can support and operate the platforms effectively.
  • Join an on-call rota to help keep services available and restore them when incidents happen.
  • Assess new technologies and tools, then recommend practical changes that improve reliability, security, and ease of operation.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple technical teams to streamline deployment, configuration, system management, and lifecycle activities.

What you need

  • A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related subject, or equivalent real-world experience.
  • Practical experience using infrastructure automation and configuration management tools in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Terraform.
  • Experience working with large Linux estates and resolving system-level issues.
  • Background in building or supporting CI/CD pipelines, using version control, and applying DevOps practices in production.
  • Programming or scripting ability in Python, Bash, or a similar language, with a track record of using scripts to automate operational tasks.
  • Experience working in hybrid environments that combine on-premises systems with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Additional experience that would be useful

  • Experience supporting large-scale or multi-cluster environments across different locations or infrastructure platforms.
  • Exposure to Ansible.
  • Experience using Codex or other AI-enabled tools in software development or automation scenarios.
  • Relevant technical certifications.
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams.
