Senior/Staff Subsystem & SoC Design Engineer Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Senior/Staff Subsystem & SoC Design Engineer
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

Arm’s Solution Engineering organization creates sophisticated end-to-end solutions that span system specification, front-end design and validation, physical implementation, and silicon delivery. This role sits within the front-end design group in SE SoC Engineering, where the team develops complete subsystem solutions such as GPU subsystems and control subsystems, along with reference platform designs for a broad set of markets including automotive, mobile, server, and others. The work builds on outputs from Arm IP teams and combines the latest Arm IP with selected third-party components to produce integrated, optimized subsystem designs for SoCs aimed at edge AI, physical AI, and cloud AI use cases.

What you will do

  • Take part in the specification, design, and verification of subsystems and/or test chips.
  • Create RTL and the related design-intent artifacts, including timing constraints and power intent deliverables.
  • Integrate IP blocks into subsystem-level designs.
  • Carry out a range of design checks to support quality and correctness.
  • Contribute sections of the microarchitecture specification.
  • Work closely with verification engineers to review test plans and help diagnose design problems.
  • Collaborate with implementation engineers to improve the design for physical realization.
  • Organize your own workload, maintain progress tracking, and report status so delivery remains timely and high quality.

What Arm is looking for

  • Hands-on experience with SystemVerilog or Verilog HDL for RTL development.
  • Strong understanding of RTL design for complex SoC programs.
  • Practical experience with static design checks, power-domain and clock-domain crossing, and synthesis.
  • Good knowledge of computer architecture and systems fundamentals, with direct experience in complex system design that may include CPUs, GPUs, multimedia IP such as camera, display, and video, interconnects, memory controllers, and high-performance peripherals.
  • Comfort using UNIX environments and scripting tools such as Python, Perl, or shell scripts.
  • Ability to write clear specifications and documentation for sophisticated designs.

Additional experience that would be useful

  • Exposure to Arm-based designs, Arm system architecture, and AMBA standards.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, and/or assembly language.
  • Experience working on large-scale SoC development programs.
  • Background in functional safety development for automotive products, including standards such as ISO 26262 and/or IEC 61508.
