Job Role Sr. Electrical Engineer, EU AMZL Sustainability Engineering
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

The EU Sustainability Engineering team is seeking a senior electrical engineer to help scale programs that sit at the center of Amazon’s wider electrification transformation. The role supports Amazon’s sustainability goals by advancing energy technologies that reduce carbon impact and improve the efficiency of the company’s buildings and transport network. Amazon says its Climate Pledge commits the business to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040, and this position contributes to the work needed to get there.

The main focus of the role is the electrification of last-mile and middle-mile fleets, along with the rollout of technologies that improve energy efficiency across Amazon buildings. The work also involves expanding a very large private charging network and developing innovative electrical designs that support smart grid strategy. The available locations for this position are Luxembourg, London, and Milan.

What you will do

  • Take end-to-end ownership of standards for electrical equipment, including working with manufacturers to develop standard designs for core electrical components.
  • Review and validate designs to confirm that installation teams are following the required electrical standards during equipment deployment.
  • Act as the technical authority for field engineering and help teams prepare for the practical execution of on-site installation work.
  • Work with stakeholders to align expectations around the installation of electrical infrastructure that supports EV charging networks and smart grid capabilities.
  • Partner with internal teams to shape the technology roadmap for high-voltage and low-voltage infrastructure, including EV chargers, high- and low-voltage substations, energy-efficiency systems, and IoT technologies such as smart meters.
  • Develop business cases and present them to leadership to obtain approval for program scope and progression.
  • Support the coordination of project managers working on large-scale installation efforts.
  • Improve commissioning, audit, value engineering, and cost-control processes.
  • Work across the organization and with external partners to make short-, medium-, and long-term technical decisions that have large-scale impact across the Amazon network.
  • Collaborate with teams in Operations, RME, Health and Safety, Global Fleet Product, Finance, Procurement, and with external vendors to design and deploy electrical infrastructure across Amazon’s EU operational sites.

About the team

EU Sustainability Engineering owns the definition and ongoing improvement of electrical standards for EV charging network solutions and smart grid solutions at Amazon. The team focuses on ensuring design reliability while also keeping a close eye on cost, with the belief that avoiding waste is essential to effective sustainability work. Because Amazon’s last-mile network is so large, the team works in close partnership with other groups, especially Operations, On Road (DSP), and RME.

What the role requires

  • A master’s degree or doctorate in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience leading large-scale projects through the full product development lifecycle in a substantial cross-functional environment.
  • Experience driving collaborative work from concept to delivery, or experience providing technical support in a comparable setting.
  • Strong ability to work with multiple stakeholders and influence technical outcomes.
  • Preferred: ability to speak one or more European languages.
  • Preferred: experience working with public grid operators.
  • Preferred: Chartered Electrical Engineer (CEng) status or an equivalent qualification, depending on the country.
