This role sits within Amazon Business Payments, where the team is changing how businesses pay on Amazon by providing invoicing, working capital, and other payment solutions for Amazon Business customers, sellers, and small businesses around the world. As part of Amazonâs global Consumer Payments organization, the team focuses on building payment and financial services that customers trust and find valuable.
The position is for a senior risk leader who will shape credit performance strategy for lending portfolios in the UK and EU. The work is highly influential and directly affects how Amazon deploys capital to support small business growth across Europe. Rather than simply managing risk in a traditional sense, the role is about driving portfolio expansion while keeping risk controls disciplined and effective. The successful candidate will own the full risk strategy, help solve complex business problems, and ensure customer capital needs are met in a responsible way.
This is an individual contributor position that reports to the Head of EU Credit Strategy. The role requires someone who is comfortable operating across Science, Product, Technology, and Business functions, and who can help shape policy, improve automated decisioning, and build the systems that support lending at Amazon scale.
What you will do
- Own credit strategy across the entire customer journey, with direct responsibility for how the lending business grows and performs.
- Partner with Science teams to develop new product capabilities, define model rule frameworks, and improve automated credit decisioning using AI and machine learning.
- Build influence across senior stakeholders in Product, Technology, Science, and Business so that major changes can be delivered effectively.
- Look for opportunities to innovate, design experiments, and help create payment experiences that are better for customers.
- Define the key portfolio metrics, monitor performance, and communicate results and business outcomes to senior leadership.
- Support the broader business by solving difficult strategic and operational issues related to credit, lending growth, and capital deployment.
- Contribute as a hands-on senior individual contributor rather than as a people manager.
What the team is looking for
- Strong experience with advanced SQL, including the ability to write complex queries independently from multiple tables.
- A bachelorâs degree.
- Proven analytical strength, excellent attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with and influencing senior leaders, including comfort with multi-layered decision-making processes.
- Solid program management skills and the ability to coordinate work across functions.
- A resourceful, customer-oriented, and collaborative approach to work.
- The ability to build productive relationships with important stakeholders.
- A masterâs degree is preferred.
- Experience in internal audit and risk management, or something equivalent, is also preferred.
