Arup is looking for an experienced Transport Modeller to join its Transport Consulting team, working in a collaborative and inventive environment at the centre of the organisation’s transport planning and modelling capability. The team operates across the UK and internationally and works closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and the wider global transport modelling community. The work supports complex, high-profile transport projects that contribute to more sustainable and resilient transport networks.

This opportunity is aimed at ambitious transport modellers who want to take on challenging schemes and apply data, modelling techniques and new approaches to real-world transport problems. The position involves working with senior modellers and project managers on both project delivery and bid work, helping to create strategic transport models, forecast future conditions, test mitigation options and assess schemes. The role covers the full modelling process, from initial data analysis and model development through to reporting, visualisation and discussions with clients. There is also scope to work with colleagues across different disciplines and geographies, including support for projects elsewhere in the UK and overseas when needed.

What you will do

  • Build and apply strategic transport models to support major transport projects and business development activity.
  • Use data, modelling tools and innovative techniques to solve practical transport planning and modelling challenges.
  • Work closely with senior transport modellers and project managers on project delivery and bid preparation.
  • Develop forecasts of future transport conditions and assess the effects of different mitigation measures or scenarios.
  • Carry out scheme assessment and appraisal using modelling outputs and analysis.
  • Take responsibility for tasks across the modelling lifecycle, including data analysis, model development, reporting, visual presentation of results and client engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from other disciplines and locations, and contribute to work in other parts of the UK and internationally where required.

What the team is looking for

  • Previous transport modelling experience, ideally across highway, public transport and/or multimodal modelling work.
  • Practical experience using one or more of VISUM, SATURN, CUBE or MATSim.
  • Experience with model development, calibration and validation.
  • A solid understanding of TAG requirements, forecasting and scenario testing.
  • Strong data analysis skills, along with the ability to write clear technical notes and reports and present work to a high standard.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both on your own and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • The role is intended for someone who already has experience and is looking to grow further in strategic modelling and technical breadth.
