Worldwide Specialist Solutions Architect Database, Data AI Specialist Overview

Company Name Amazon
Job Role Worldwide Specialist Solutions Architect Database, Data AI Specialist
Qualifications Bachelor’s
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

Amazon Web Services is seeking an experienced specialist solutions architect focused on NoSQL databases, data, and AI-related workloads. In this role, you would work directly with customers to design cloud-based NoSQL solutions, with Amazon DynamoDB at the center of many of those architectures. The position is aimed at helping organizations build scalable, highly available, serverless database systems for mission-critical applications, while also guiding them toward the right database choices across a broader modern data stack.

You would have the opportunity to work with a wide range of customers, from fast-growing startups to large enterprises. A major part of the role is understanding customer challenges in depth, collaborating with internal AWS service teams, and shaping solutions that address real business and technical needs. You would also work closely with AWS sales, business development, solutions architecture, and product teams to build the expertise needed to grow DynamoDB-related business.

What you would do

  • Partner with AWS field sales, pre-sales, training, and support teams to help customers understand DynamoDB and adopt it effectively.
  • Advise customers on which database services and design approaches are best suited to their requirements.
  • Serve as a customer advocate for the DynamoDB service team by bringing back feedback that helps define and prioritize future service capabilities.
  • Lead internal and external enablement efforts by training Solutions Architects, Professional Services Consultants, and Technical Account Managers.
  • Collect proven practices and share them with customers and with the global AWS solutions architecture community.
  • Write and contribute technical material such as blog posts, service documentation, and reference architectures.
  • Represent AWS at industry events by presenting technical content and helping customers understand the value of AWS and DynamoDB.

What the day-to-day work looks like

The role sits within a specialist NoSQL group that also covers DocumentDB, Neptune, Keyspaces, ElastiCache, and MemoryDB. Together, the team helps customers design purpose-built database architectures, increasingly for agentic AI applications and other modern workloads.

Much of the work centers on customer engagements where DynamoDB is a key part of the architecture. For example, you might design a session and memory store for an autonomous AI agent framework, making sure conversation state, tool-use history, and retrieval context are retained at scale with very low latency. In that kind of scenario, you would work with colleagues focused on graph databases for the knowledge layer while owning the fast transactional layer that keeps the system responsive and stateful.

Other projects may involve a multi-tenant SaaS platform with complex access patterns, or an event-driven pipeline where DynamoDB Streams feed downstream AI orchestration. In those cases, you would design partitioning strategies, define global secondary index patterns, and explain when DynamoDB is the right fit and when another NoSQL engine should be used instead.

You would also turn technical expertise into broader influence by creating reference architectures, presenting to engineering leadership, and contributing to internal enablement across the specialist team. The role includes sharing ideas across database boundaries, such as offering partition key guidance for a Keyspaces engagement or reviewing a DocumentDB schema. The overall goal is to help customers choose the right database for each workload, use it effectively, and build systems that are ready for future needs such as agentic AI, real-time personalization, and large-scale IoT.

Team and culture

AWS says it values inclusion and embraces differences across its workforce. The company describes a culture supported by employee-led affinity groups, global learning opportunities, conferences, and its 16 Leadership Principles, which encourage curiosity, diverse perspectives, and trust.

What you need

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a similar discipline, or equivalent experience gained through professional work or military service.
  • Experience in IT development or in implementation and consulting roles within software or internet companies.
  • Experience in one or more relevant technical areas such as software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, or data and analytics.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or consulting on applications and infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives and clients.
  • Experience working with end-user communities or developer communities is desirable.
  • Experience in infrastructure architecture, database architecture, and networking is also desirable.
  • Comfort working across customer, sales, product, and service teams in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to go deep on technical problems and turn that understanding into practical guidance for customers.
