This is an opportunity for an experienced principal-level embedded software engineer to join a well-established engineering team in central Bristol. The role involves developing embedded software products for a wide range of customers, spanning everything from small startups to major global technology businesses. What you will be doing

• Building embedded software products as part of a collaborative team in central Bristol.
• Contributing to projects for a diverse customer base, including both emerging companies and large international technology organisations.
• Applying strong low-level embedded programming skills in C and assembler.
• Working on embedded systems design and architecture-level problem solving.
• Using ARM-based platforms and related development knowledge in day-to-day engineering work.
• Working with real-time operating systems as part of embedded product development.
• Using networking knowledge, including TCP and UDP, where relevant to the product work.
• Reviewing the work of other engineers and helping maintain technical quality across the team.
• Supporting junior engineers and contributing to their development.
• Taking on responsibilities that may lead toward a team lead or management position.

What the employer is looking for

• A strong academic background.
• At least five years of experience in embedded engineering.
• Hands-on experience with low-level Embedded C and assembler programming.
• Experience designing embedded systems.
• Knowledge of ARM architecture.
• Experience with real-time operating systems.
• Understanding of networking protocols such as TCP and UDP.
• Any experience in the automotive or medical sectors would be beneficial.
• A collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in working closely with other engineers.
• Confidence in reviewing others’ work and helping junior colleagues.
• Either existing team leadership experience or the ambition to move into that kind of role.
