This opportunity is for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a busy engineering team in Oxfordshire working on innovative, highly precise products. The role sits within a fast-paced environment where the focus is on taking mechanical concepts through detailed design, validation, and release into production. What you will do

  • Develop detailed mechanical designs and create components that are ready for manufacturing using CAD tools.
  • Produce engineering drawings of a high standard, making sure they comply with ISO BS 8888 and GD&T practices.
  • Carry out engineering analysis, including finite element analysis and manual calculations, to support design decisions and confirm performance.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and assembly colleagues to make sure the designs are practical, robust, and suitable for production.
  • Support mechanical assembly, integration, and testing activities as products move through development.
  • Take designs from early concept stages through iterative refinement, validation, and final production release.

What the employer is looking for

  • Prior experience in mechanical design.
  • Strong CAD skills, with the ability to produce detailed mechanical designs and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience using finite element analysis and/or manual calculation methods to guide engineering decisions.
  • Preferred experience with SolidWorks and ANSYS.
  • Good knowledge of design for manufacture, especially for precision metal parts, CNC machining, and material choice.
  • A proven ability to create manufacturing-ready drawings and apply tolerances in line with ISO BS 8888 and GD&T standards.
  • Experience working on opto-mechanical systems or other high-precision assemblies, particularly where alignment sensitivity and thermal behaviour are important.
