A US-founded start-up has recently expanded into the UK and is assembling a new hardware engineering group focused on ASIC design, verification, and architecture. The business is led by an experienced management team and is positioning itself to play a role in the AI and advanced computing space, where there is growing demand for sophisticated platforms that combine CPUs, GPUs, and neural accelerators. This position sits within a fabric IP organisation and offers the chance to help shape the company’s technology direction at an early stage.

In this role, you will work as a design verification engineer with a strong emphasis on building testbenches and creating test sequences for complex IP. You will be part of a small and highly influential team, helping define verification strategy and contributing to the development of innovative hardware solutions.

What you will do

  • Build verification plans for highly configurable IP that enables connectivity across SoC, chiplet, and multi-chiplet systems.
  • Develop UVM and SystemVerilog verification infrastructure, including testbench logic, checkers, and scoreboards, to implement the planned verification approach.
  • Work alongside software engineers to define and create adaptable testbenches that can support changing requirements.
  • Collaborate with design engineers on planning, debugging failures, and measuring coverage to ensure strong verification quality.
  • Contribute as one of the early UK hires, helping establish the engineering culture and technical direction of the hardware team.

What the employer is looking for

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • At least six years of current, practical experience in verification work at block, IP, or SoC level.
  • Strong command of Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Hands-on familiarity with standard EDA tools used for simulation and debugging.
  • Deep experience creating and maintaining UVM-based testbenches.
  • Ability to program in modern languages such as Python.
  • Working knowledge of Arm AMBA interfaces and protocols, including AXI, APB, and AHB.
  • Exposure to Arm CHI would be beneficial.
  • Background working on caches, cache coherency, memory subsystems, interconnects, or NoC IP would be a plus.
  • Experience with formal verification approaches and emulation environments would also be advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a careful, detail-oriented approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues across engineering disciplines.

Package and opportunity

  • Base salary up to £120,000, with the exact level depending on experience.
  • Share options as part of the reward package.
  • A performance-linked bonus scheme.
  • The opportunity to join a company at a very early stage in its UK growth and help build a world-class hardware team from the beginning.

Location and working arrangement

The role is onsite, and the successful candidate must already be living and working in the United Kingdom. The employer also requires someone who is happy to work from either Bristol or Cambridge.
