Ping Identity is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team and help build the next generation of identity capabilities across the company’s platform. The work is centered on creating secure, seamless digital experiences and on extending Ping’s identity-for-AI offerings so customers can identify, secure, and govern AI agents. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys turning ideas into working production features and who thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative, cross-functional, and globally distributed environment.
The team’s mission spans the full Ping platform, and the role involves work across infrastructure, databases, backend services, APIs, orchestration, and user-facing experiences. The company is especially interested in engineers who are comfortable with research and experimentation, who can make good technical decisions in ambiguous situations, and who are excited to use modern AI tooling as part of their everyday development workflow.
What you will do
- Develop identity and access management functionality across the Ping platform, working across the entire stack from infrastructure and data storage through to the interface layer.
- Design and implement APIs, models, workflows, orchestration surfaces, and services that support platform capabilities.
- Explore new technical areas, build prototypes, and work with senior technical leaders and product teams to turn validated concepts into customer-facing features.
- Collaborate closely with product management, UX, and engineering teams across Ping to refine feature ideas and deliver solutions that are elegant, usable, and able to scale.
- Participate in all stages of the development lifecycle, including architecture and design, coding, testing, release activities, and support once software is in production.
- Use AI development tools such as Claude Code in day-to-day work to speed up research, code exploration, prototyping, implementation, and documentation, while continuing to apply strong engineering judgment.
- Share knowledge, communicate clearly, and support other engineers through design conversations, code reviews, and collaborative delivery.
- Stay effective in a rapidly changing environment by adapting to shifting customer needs, new technologies, and evolving ways of working.
What the role calls for
- Proven ability to design, build, test, and operate production services using technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Google Cloud, Docker, and Kubernetes, along with the motivation to broaden your technical range.
- Experience using AI engineering tools to accelerate research, code understanding, prototyping, implementation, and documentation, paired with sound engineering judgment.
- Background in building production services, distributed systems, or shared platform capabilities.
- Experience designing APIs, RESTful services, integration contracts, and data or domain models.
- Ability to take unclear requirements or open-ended problems and convert them into designs, prototypes, and production-ready solutions.
- Experience in authentication, authorization, and identity management.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions clearly, work effectively across teams and time zones, and help other engineers through feedback and knowledge sharing.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional, and global team setting.
- Strong software engineering background, good technical judgment, creative problem-solving ability, and enthusiasm for research, innovation, and experimentation.
- Interest in building across products, services, APIs, models, and user experiences.
- Ability to contribute to a team focused on identity capabilities for AI agents and related governance challenges.
Helpful additional experience
- Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, token exchange, policy systems, delegated administration, or identity data modelling.
- Experience with AI agent identity and non-human identity.
- Familiarity with MCP, agent skills, and other agent integration concepts.
- Experience working across multiple codebases, teams, or product areas to deliver connected outcomes.
- Experience with distributed systems operating at scale.
- Experience working in an international team.
- Experience contributing to technical designs and proof-of-concept work.
