Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

Anaplan is hiring an Engineering Manager for its Platform organization in London. This role sits within the Environment Tooling team, a key part of Platform Engineering, and is positioned at the center of the company’s DevOps and platform transformation work. The team is responsible for the core GitOps deployment pipeline and for tooling that improves the developer experience. Over time, the scope will grow to include ownership of non-production environments and the creation of automated orchestration and self-healing systems that support the route to production.

In this position, you will manage a team of six engineers and report to the Senior Director of Platform Engineering. The role combines people leadership, operational responsibility, and strategic platform design. It is intended for someone who enjoys coaching engineers, building strong team culture, and balancing day-to-day reliability with longer-term technical change.

What you will do

  • Lead the Environment Tooling team and help guide the broader platform engineering transformation.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of six platform engineers, supporting career growth, goal setting, and technical development.
  • Create a healthy, inclusive, and motivated team environment that supports wellbeing and sustainable working practices.
  • Use a pragmatic Agile approach to improve team processes, plan sprint work, clear blockers, and deliver value in small, steady increments.
  • Work closely with other platform leaders, security teams, and software engineering managers to align priorities, define boundaries, and coordinate shared roadmaps.
  • Own delivery of Environment Tooling initiatives from initial scoping and planning through dependency management, milestone tracking, risk handling, and stakeholder updates.
  • Take engineering ownership of Argo CD and the platform’s GitOps capabilities, including architectural strengthening, scaling, and operational support.
  • Set the direction for platform-wide feature flagging tooling and the associated technical strategy.
  • Run the team’s on-call rotation to maintain deployment pipeline reliability and support smooth releases during critical downtime periods.
  • Establish the team as the owner and governance lead for all non-production environments across the path to production.
  • Support modern local development workflows, including Tilt-based setups on developer laptops connected to cloud-hosted services.
  • Design orchestration and tooling that can destroy and recreate non-production environments on demand.
  • Build internal systems that automatically create mock test data, manage environment test states, and provision test user identities.
  • Connect orchestration workflows with infrastructure automation used for cluster provisioning and teardown, as well as service hydration pipelines.
  • Create automated self-healing and guardrail mechanisms that detect when a deployment has broken a non-production environment and trigger an immediate rollback.
  • Define and enforce standards, policies, and usage rules for non-production environments across engineering teams.

What the team works with

  • Argo CD for deployment and GitOps workflows.
  • LaunchDarkly for feature flagging.
  • Tilt for developer tooling.
  • Kubernetes on EKS and GKE, along with Docker, Terraform, Helm, and Kubernetes Operators.
  • Infrastructure automation and service hydration pipelines.
  • AWS and GCP.
  • Go and Java.

What Anaplan is looking for

  • Experience leading platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering teams as a manager or senior technical lead, with a record of mentoring engineers and influencing important technical choices.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, GitOps practices such as Argo CD, infrastructure as code, and container orchestration.
  • A practical, iterative mindset that focuses on delivering value early and improving continuously rather than waiting for a perfect final release.
  • A genuine interest in developer experience and in building self-service platform tools that reduce friction for engineers.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to set expectations, keep roadmaps visible, and establish technical governance.
  • First-time managers with strong potential and relevant leadership experience are welcome to apply.
