Pigment is hiring a Senior SRE to help shape the infrastructure behind its AI-powered business planning and performance management platform. The product is designed to help teams across functions such as Finance and HR build, adjust, and align plans in real time, and the engineering challenge is substantial: the platform must process and synchronize very large datasets, including client models that can reach billions of rows, while supporting live transformations, pivots, aggregations, and front-end rendering. This role sits within the Engineering organization and is part of the SRE team, with a strong expectation that the successful candidate will work closely with software engineers and contribute to software development as well as reliability and operations work.
What you will do
- Design and build the infrastructure that will support Pigment’s next stage of growth and technical evolution.
- Create scalable systems that can automatically expand or contract based on how the platform is being used.
- Help solve performance problems by building infrastructure and automation that can handle demanding real-time workloads.
- Strengthen the platform’s reliability by ensuring high availability and redundancy.
- Put in place and improve monitoring for both performance and correctness, and help spread observability practices across the engineering team.
- Join incident response efforts and help the team react effectively when production issues arise.
- Support the company’s international expansion by helping the platform operate reliably as Pigment grows into new geographies and serves customers overseas.
- Work with the security team on infrastructure and pipeline-related initiatives, including areas such as code repositories and credential management.
- Look for inefficiencies in development workflows and delivery pipelines, then improve them through automation and better processes.
- Help drive operational and engineering change across the wider software engineering organization.
- Contribute to software development work in addition to SRE responsibilities, collaborating closely with engineers rather than operating as a separate silo.
- Work as part of the SRE team while sharing ownership of the platform with the broader engineering group.
About the engineering environment
Pigment’s engineering team builds the SaaS platform end to end, with involvement across design, coding, and keeping production systems healthy. The team does not enforce a hard split between infrastructure, backend, and frontend work; instead, engineers may specialize while still collaborating across the stack. The culture emphasizes user focus, pragmatism, curiosity, humility, trust, ownership, and team spirit.
The platform runs on Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform, with most infrastructure components hosted on GKE and some PostgreSQL systems running on Google Cloud SQL. Infrastructure is managed through Terraform, covering items such as cluster creation, databases, storage buckets, and IAM permissions. The data and platform stack includes PostgreSQL, SingleStore, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, Temporal.io, ArgoCD, Istio, Vault, GitHub, and Docker for local development. Backend services are built as microservices in C# ASP.NET Core 8 running on Linux, alongside Golang services. The frontend uses React, TypeScript, Jest, Cypress, and Vite.
What Pigment is looking for
- Strong engineering ability, with the judgment to turn product requirements into a clean and simple architecture and then ensure the system runs reliably.
- Experience working as both a software engineer and in DevOps or SRE roles.
- Practical experience with container orchestration platforms, with Kubernetes being a strong advantage.
- Experience using a public cloud provider, with Google Cloud Platform preferred.
- Demonstrated software development experience in one or more languages such as C#, Java, C++, Golang, Rust, JavaScript, Python, or Ruby, while recognizing that other languages may also be relevant.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, ELK, or Jaeger.
- The ability to understand the product and customer needs in depth and to propose ideas that improve value for end users.
- A collaborative, problem-solving mindset and strong team spirit.
- Humility and a willingness to keep learning and improving, regardless of seniority.
- Fluency in English.
- Comfort working in a modern cloud-native engineering environment that includes Kubernetes, GCP, Terraform, and related tooling.
