Senior Engineering Manager, Brand Ads and Promotions Overview

Company Name Deliveroo
Job Role Senior Engineering Manager, Brand Ads and Promotions
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

Deliveroo is hiring a senior engineering leader to shape and scale the Brand Ads and Promotions area within its Ads organisation. This team works on the advertising marketplace across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo, covering sponsored placements, in-app promotions, and offsite campaigns that connect merchants and brands with consumers at the right time. The Brand Ads and Promotions function focuses on building self-serve and programmatic advertising products that help brands and merchants create, manage, and measure campaigns across the full funnel, from onboarding through campaign management to end-to-end measurement.

This position is intended for someone who can lead the development of sophisticated ad products and solutions, combining distributed backend services with front-end systems to make advertising on the platform seamless for advertisers. The role also carries broader organisational leadership responsibility, including guiding engineers, machine learning specialists, and engineering managers, and serving as the single-threaded leader for the EMEA Ads organisation while growing and managing multiple teams.

What you will do

  • Use AI tools to improve productivity, strengthen internal workflows, and build applications that help teams work more effectively.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain strong software teams that are focused on business outcomes.
  • Define and execute the engineering strategy for a multi-team organisation, including long-term planning and technical direction.
  • Build scalable products and lead the engineering vision for the area, ensuring the work can support growth over time.
  • Turn large, complex systems into smaller, maintainable components that can be improved iteratively.
  • Continuously improve the architecture of the systems and the way the team develops software.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and peer leaders to align on priorities and delivery.
  • Drive planning and execution while balancing immediate delivery needs with longer-term strategic objectives.
  • Step into technical detail when necessary to support teams and solve difficult engineering problems.
  • Make reliability and quality central to everything the team delivers.

What the role involves

  • Leading the development of advertising products and solutions for brands and merchants.
  • Owning the full advertising journey, including advertiser onboarding, programmatic campaign management, and measurement capabilities.
  • Building products that combine backend distributed systems and user-facing interfaces for a smooth advertiser experience.
  • Managing and mentoring software engineers, machine learning engineers, and engineering managers.
  • Acting as the main leader for the EMEA Ads organisation and helping multiple teams grow and operate effectively.

What you need to succeed

  • Experience in software engineering, particularly in large-scale distributed systems and related technical areas.
  • A history of hiring and scaling teams, including building teams from scratch and growing them into sustainable organisations.
  • Experience leading through senior managers and other leaders, not only through direct individual contributors.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience with performance management, coaching, mentoring, and team development.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to solving infrastructure and technical execution gaps.
  • A strong customer focus, with attention to the needs of consumers, riders, and merchants around the world.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, resilience under pressure, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
  • Willingness to get involved directly when needed and openness to feedback.
  • A growth mindset and interest in delivering projects that support business goals and global expansion.
  • Experience in ad-tech is desirable but not essential.
  • This role is based in London and follows a hybrid working model, usually with three days in the office each week.
