This role sits within Googleâs Data Center Engineering and Data Center Design Integration work, where the focus is on shaping the physical and technical design of next-generation data centers. The team works on complex infrastructure challenges, including power, environmentally efficient facilities, and integrated systems that keep Googleâs products running reliably at global scale. In this position, you would act as a Telecom/ICT lead, helping senior engineers across multiple disciplines create integrated communications designs for both product-level and top-level data center assemblies.
The work is highly cross-functional and requires close coordination with specialists in architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, security, and networking. You would help translate telecom and network needs into practical design outputs, support design integration across disciplines, and contribute to the development of data center infrastructure that meets technical, operational, and compliance requirements. The role is based in the EMEA region, with preferred working locations in London or Dublin.
What you will do
- Collaborate with internal telecom engineers and network designers to convert requirements into product concepts, including early one-line diagrams and conceptual rack and tray layouts that ensure the telecom infrastructure is properly planned.
- Work across architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and security teams to support product development and the integration of telecom infrastructure into the overall data center assembly.
- Lead design reviews for ICT and telecom products and data center designs, including reviews that cover telecom, security, controls, and networking elements.
- Review construction-level drawings prepared by internal teams and external vendors to confirm the ICT/telecom scope and keep it aligned with program needs.
- Support and promote best practices for converged network allocations across mechanical, electrical, and controls products.
- Serve as a Telecom/ICT lead on integrated communications design work for data center products and top-level assemblies.
- Use technical expertise to help ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards and to support infrastructure improvements in a mission-critical environment.
- Communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders and help drive implementation with facilities and technical teams.
What you need
- A bachelorâs degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of experience in data center infrastructure, telecommunications, or construction.
- At least five years of engineering experience in the telecommunications sector.
- Experience working in a data center or another mission-critical environment.
- Experience contributing to ICT/telecom design for large-scale data centers, ideally projects at 40MW or above.
- Professional certification such as RCDD, CNIDP, CDCDP, or a similar credential.
- Experience working with outside telecom vendors and evaluating their product specifications for use in ICT/telecom design.
- Experience using Autodesk Revit or another 3D modeling platform to develop telecom rack and tray layouts.
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines and manage changing priorities and deadlines on global projects.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to present recommendations to senior leaders and coordinate execution with technical teams.
- English fluency, since Google states that English proficiency is required for all roles unless the posting says otherwise.
- Mid-level experience, with the expectation that you can drive progress, solve problems, and mentor less experienced team members.
