Arm is seeking a practical, hands-on hardware security specialist to help protect the security of system-on-chip hardware platforms. This position sits within the Product Security team and is centered on finding weaknesses in silicon-level security features, understanding the consequences of those weaknesses, and working alongside architecture and silicon engineering teams to strengthen the security of Arm’s platforms.
The role is suited to someone who enjoys deep technical investigation, building demonstrations that show real-world impact, and developing tools and methods that improve how hardware security is assessed. The team environment is collaborative and values continuous learning, careful analysis, and thoughtful problem-solving.
What you will do
- Conduct practical security assessments of SoC hardware blocks and security mechanisms, including trust anchors, debug access paths, and isolation features.
- Investigate hardware security flaws through architecture review, inspection of hardware interfaces, and experimental testing.
- Create proof-of-concept demonstrations that make the system-level impact of hardware weaknesses easy to understand.
- Apply and deepen expertise in hardware security approaches relevant to silicon security, privilege separation, and trust architectures.
- Develop, refine, and support tools and methodologies used for hardware security evaluation and experimentation.
- Partner closely with architecture, silicon design, firmware, and platform teams to communicate findings clearly and help shape effective mitigations.
- Provide detailed technical analysis that helps improve the security of complex SoC platforms.
What Arm is looking for
- Practical experience in offensive security, vulnerability research, or low-level systems security.
- Strong knowledge of microarchitecture and SoC design principles.
- Experience reviewing architectural specifications and RTL for security-relevant behavior.
- Good understanding of modern SoC architectures, including security boundaries, privilege levels, and hardware isolation.
- Experience analyzing hardware interfaces and platform components such as debug infrastructure, secure boot roots of trust, or system interconnects.
- Familiarity with hardware debug interfaces such as JTAG or SWD, along with relevant hardware attack techniques.
- Low-level programming experience, including C and working knowledge of assembly language, preferably Arm assembly.
- Understanding of how hardware and software interact, and how security properties are enforced across different layers of a system.
- Ability to write clear, structured technical reports and document security findings well.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive team.
- Helpful additional experience includes work with Arm-based platforms and SoC security architectures.
- Helpful additional experience includes hardware security techniques such as fault injection and side-channel analysis.
- Helpful additional experience includes using laboratory equipment and debugging tools for hardware experimentation.
- Helpful additional experience includes silicon bring-up or hardware validation work.
- Helpful additional experience includes contributing to hardware security research, tools, or vulnerability disclosures.
