Job Type Full Time
Location London

Capgemini Invent is looking for an AI Engineering Consultant or Senior Consultant who can help design, build, and run advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning, and generative AI solutions at enterprise scale. The role is focused on turning early-stage AI ideas into reliable, production-ready business capabilities. You will help close the gap between prototypes and real-world deployment by creating the right technical foundations, operating practices, and safeguards so that AI systems can be scaled responsibly and with clear business impact.

The team combines strategic thinking, creativity, scientific rigour, and technology delivery to support clients facing complex transformation challenges. The work is centred on building solutions that are informed by data and science, enhanced by design and creativity, and enabled by technology with a clear purpose.

What you will do

  • Assess existing AI delivery approaches and put in place a robust MLOps model, including governance and best-practice standards aligned to industry expectations.
  • Design and deliver full AI and machine learning solutions from start to finish, including data preparation, model development, deployment, feature store design, model lifecycle management, and monitoring.
  • Build and operationalise solutions using current generative AI and agentic AI frameworks and methods.
  • Translate business AI opportunities into practical data and AI architecture choices, using the most appropriate cloud services across major hyperscale platforms.
  • Architect generative AI systems such as retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, agent-based workflows, and orchestration of large language models across Azure, GCP, or AWS.
  • Embed safety, evaluation, and assurance controls throughout the AI lifecycle so that solutions are ethical, explainable, and responsible.
  • Turn business and functional needs into technical blueprints and help guide multidisciplinary teams through implementation.
  • Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to ensure the solutions deliver measurable value.
  • Create client-ready demonstrations and proof-of-value assets, support proposals, and contribute to technical deep-dives as part of business development activity.
  • Develop reusable assets and frameworks that can speed up delivery across accounts and help shape internal standards for the Data & AI Innovation team.
  • Contribute to capability building through thought leadership, blog writing, internal accelerator development, and sharing knowledge on emerging topics such as agentic AI, LLMOps, and evaluation frameworks.

What the team is looking for

  • Experience in a major consulting firm, or industry experience paired with a consulting mindset, with the ability to succeed in a matrixed organisation and win support from peers when selling and delivering solutions.
  • Experience working with client sponsors, both technical and non-technical, to shape requirements collaboratively and build solutions.
  • Proven ability to define and implement an MLOps strategy and framework, with a strong record of taking AI and machine learning solutions from concept into production at scale.
  • Deep knowledge of generative AI and agentic AI, including retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, evaluation harnesses, and orchestration frameworks.
  • Experience designing cloud-native data and AI architectures across Azure, GCP, AWS, and/or Databricks.
  • The ability to demonstrate how scaling AI creates business value and impact.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform, such as Azure, GCP, or AWS, including relevant AI services and tooling.
  • Experience building and automating AI and machine learning pipelines using tools such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Azure ML, Vertex Pipelines, Airflow, or Google ADK.
  • Practical experience with generative and agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, Autogen, Google ADK, or similar tools.
  • Ability to design and implement retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, agentic workflows, MCP integrations, and connections to LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, or equivalent services.
  • Strong capability in CI/CD and containerisation, including GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Desirable but not essential: experience evaluating AI system performance through prompt testing, A/B testing, and quality assessment methods.
  • Desirable but not essential: familiarity with modern data patterns such as lakehouse architectures, vector databases, and relational or NoSQL stores.
  • Desirable but not essential: understanding of API gateways, event streaming, and general integration patterns.
  • Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last five years to be eligible for this role.

What you can expect from working here

You will join a team of ambitious people who enjoy bringing the latest technology into real client environments and seeing it used in production. The work spans both public and private sector clients, so the impact is tangible and visible. The team is highly focused on innovation, experimentation, and practical delivery, with a strong interest in emerging models and agentic frameworks. Internal projects are regularly demonstrated at major events and conferences before being taken to clients, giving you the chance to work through the full innovation cycle from idea to real-world use.

The culture is aimed at people who are curious, self-starting, and motivated by building what comes next. Capgemini Invent also emphasises inclusion, flexibility, wellbeing, and responsible business practices.

Working arrangements and location

This is a permanent role for experienced professionals. The office base can be London, Manchester, or Glasgow, but you must be fully flexible about assignment location because the work may require time away from home at short notice. Hybrid working is part of the normal way of working, and flexible working arrangements are available to all UK employees on request.

Rewards, wellbeing, and culture

  • A flexible benefits package that can be adapted to suit your personal circumstances.
  • A variable pay component linked to grade, company performance, and individual performance.
  • Support for work-life balance through embedded hybrid working and access to flexible working arrangements.
  • Wellbeing support, including trained Mental Health Champions across the business.
  • Access to wellbeing apps such as Thrive and Peppy.
  • A workplace that has been recognised by Glassdoor as one of the UK’s best places to work for five years in a row.
  • A strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and creating an environment where people can bring their whole selves to work.
  • A focus on ethical business practice and social impact, including reducing the company’s carbon footprint and improving access to the digital world.
