Applied AI Engineer, CyberSecurity Overview

Company Name Mistral AI
Job Role Applied AI Engineer, CyberSecurity
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

This role is for an applied AI engineer focused on cybersecurity use cases, working at the intersection of agentic AI, security workflows, and customer delivery. The goal is to take the company’s underlying cyber harnesses and turn them into practical, client-facing services that solve real security problems. Rather than only building prototypes, you will help transform agent-based ideas into deployed solutions that customers rely on.

The wider company builds high-performance, open-source, enterprise-ready AI models, products, and services designed to fit naturally into everyday work. The team is international, collaborative, and product-oriented, with people distributed across France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Singapore. The culture emphasizes creativity, humility, teamwork, and a strong drive to build useful technology that has real-world impact.

What you will be doing

  • Design and deliver customer-facing cybersecurity AI workflows that sit on top of the existing cyber harnesses.
  • Build production-ready red-team and blue-team agentic workflows for real-world security use cases.
  • Set up and adapt harnesses for scenarios such as cloud defense, vulnerability discovery, dynamic red teaming, and penetration testing.
  • Work directly with customers to understand their security challenges and convert those needs into agent-based solutions.
  • Take prototype agents and evolve them into services that can be deployed and used in production.
  • Develop the context-engineering approach that allows agents to operate effectively in cybersecurity environments.
  • Orchestrate multiple agents so they can work together on more complex security tasks.
  • Build the layer that connects the underlying harnesses to the customer-facing service experience.
  • Move quickly, release early, and refine the solution using client feedback and observed performance in the field.
  • Operate with a high degree of independence while making strong use of internal frameworks, reusable components, and existing technical building blocks.
  • Collaborate with pentesters to ensure the solutions are technically sound and aligned with real security practice.
  • Work closely with the SWE-Cyber team so the platform can support the requirements of the use cases you are implementing.

What the team is looking for

  • Hands-on experience as an applied AI engineer, especially in building agents, LLM orchestration, context engineering, evaluation pipelines, and RAG systems.
  • A strong bias toward action, with the ability to ship quickly and focus on delivery.
  • Comfort working independently and making decisions with a customer-first mindset.
  • Ability to reuse internal tools, components, and frameworks effectively.
  • Cybersecurity knowledge is a plus, but not required; the team can pair you with pentesters to build domain depth.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a careful eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Ideally, direct experience in cybersecurity or penetration testing.
  • Ideally, experience building agentic harnesses or full multi-agent systems end to end.
  • Ideally, a strong background in evaluating and benchmarking agent systems.
  • Ideally, familiarity with security tooling or security operations workflows.
  • Ideally, prior experience delivering production AI systems in regulated or high-stakes settings.

Location and working style

The role is mainly based in one of the company’s European offices, specifically Paris or London. Candidates who already live in one of those locations, or who are willing to relocate there, will be prioritized. The company places a strong value on in-person collaboration because it helps build strong working relationships and improves communication across the team.

In some specific situations, remote candidates may also be considered, but only if they are based in one of the countries named in the posting, currently France or the UK. For remote hires, the company requires an onboarding visit to the local office during the first week, with travel and accommodation covered, and then expects at least three days per month in the office.

What is offered

  • Competitive salary together with equity.
  • Private health coverage.
  • Support for transportation costs.
  • A sports allowance.
  • Meal vouchers.
  • A private pension arrangement.
  • A generous parental leave policy.
  • Visa sponsorship.

Applicants are asked to submit an application through the job posting. By applying, candidates agree to the company’s Applicant Privacy Policy.
