Base Optimization Specialist Overview

Company Name Airtable
Job Role Base Optimization Specialist
Qualifications Not Specified
Category General Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

This role sits within Airtable’s customer-facing expert function, where the team works directly with customers over live calls to review, improve, and rebuild the way they have set up their Airtable environments. The focus is not simply to advise from a distance, but to help customers make meaningful structural changes that improve performance, scalability, and the value they get from the platform. The position is based in London as part of Airtable’s growing EMEA presence, and it supports customers who are trying to get more out of the product as their needs become more complex.

What you will do

  • Join live customer conversations to uncover architectural and structural problems in the way customers have designed their Airtable bases and workflows.
  • Evaluate how customers are using data models, linked records, automations, and interfaces, and identify where the current setup is limiting results.
  • Move beyond recommendations by actually rebuilding parts of the base and demonstrating better design choices in practice.
  • Reshape customer environments so they can scale more effectively, run more efficiently, and unlock features they were not previously able to use.
  • Explain each recommendation in terms of the customer’s business goals, so the value of the redesign is clear and practical rather than purely technical.
  • Suggest ways customers can expand their use of Airtable through automation workflows, interfaces tailored to different user groups, and AI capabilities where those features add value.
  • Spot recurring themes in how customers outgrow their original architecture and share those insights with product, engineering, and support teams so the wider organization can learn from them.
  • Stay informed about changes to the platform, especially developments in AI, automation design, and integration patterns, and apply that knowledge in your guidance.
  • Lead calls confidently, diagnose issues live, and adapt your explanations to the needs of both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What Airtable is looking for

  • A builder’s mindset with a strong instinct for optimization, including the ability to look at a complicated or messy database and see a cleaner, more effective structure underneath it.
  • Deep comfort with relational data modeling and the ability to redesign a customer’s environment with purpose rather than simply tidying it up.
  • Previous experience in a consultative, customer-facing technical role in B2B SaaS, such as solutions consulting, technical support, customer engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Confidence running live customer calls, diagnosing problems in the moment, and guiding people through the fix while the conversation is happening.
  • Practical use of AI in your own workflow to speed up research, test ideas, and move faster when tackling unfamiliar problems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain why a single-table approach may be limiting and what linked records or other structural changes would enable, without making the customer feel criticized.
  • Curiosity about how people design systems and why they make the choices they do, plus a habit of asking thoughtful questions before suggesting changes.
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases, automation logic, and workflow design.
  • Helpful additional experience with APIs, webhooks, and scripting.
  • Strong preference for candidates who already use Airtable, and applicants are asked to describe their experience with the platform.
  • Applicants should also be able to explain how they teach themselves new technical skills or concepts.
  • Applicants are asked to describe how they use AI in their current role, and if possible, share a recent AI experiment or project example with a link or supporting file.

Benefits and support

  • £7,500 annual travel allowance to help with commuting expenses.
  • Private medical, dental, and vision coverage through AXA, with subsidized dependent coverage available.
  • Up to £7,200 per year through Carrot for family-planning support, along with a minimum of 16 weeks of fully paid maternity or paternity leave.
  • Childcare savings of up to 42% per child each year through the Workplace Nursery salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Employer pension contribution of 9%.
  • £150 per month to spend on wellbeing, fitness, mindfulness, hobbies, or self-care.
  • Free catered lunch on days spent in the office.
  • One-time £750 home office allowance to help set up a productive workspace.
  • 25 days of annual leave, plus 4 company-wide Recharge Days and extra time off between Christmas and New Year during the Winter Break.
  • 5 paid Volunteer Days each year for charitable or community work.
  • A workplace culture that emphasizes inclusion, respect, dignity, and equal opportunity for people from different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Support for reasonable accommodations during the application process for candidates with disabilities.

Additional application information

The application form asks candidates to provide a resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and answers to several questions about how they learn new technical skills, their experience using Airtable, and how they use AI in their current work.
