This role sits within a defined teaching programme and is focused on helping deliver a strong undergraduate learning experience. The post holder will support teaching, assessment, and administration, using their subject knowledge to help students understand core topics and identify the key learning points from course materials.
What the role involves
- Helping to plan, organise, and deliver undergraduate teaching.
- Delivering teaching and assessment activities for undergraduate subjects.
- Managing course administration tasks within set deadlines, including communicating information clearly, marking work, carrying out assessment, and providing constructive feedback promptly.
- Assisting with the creation of teaching resources and ensuring that materials and delivery methods support the intended learning outcomes.
- Using learning technologies to improve teaching, course organisation, feedback, and assessment, including blended and online delivery through Moodle and other IT tools.
- Applying specialist subject knowledge in a way that meets the needs of individual learners and groups, while using inclusive, evidence-based approaches that encourage participation and support achievement.
- Taking part in assessment activities across a range of methods, including oral assessment, and giving feedback that is timely, effective, and appropriate to student needs.
- Supporting student projects, dissertations, and practical work by advising on methods, skills, and techniques, and responding appropriately to different student support requirements.
- Taking part in continuing professional development where appropriate.
- Completing any other reasonable duties requested by the Head of School.
- Supporting the Universityâs strategic aim of enhancing its international profile.

Applicants should have an honours degree at SCQF Level 10 in a relevant area, or equivalent expertise in a related field, along with an understanding of the principles behind teaching, learning, and assessment. Candidates must also be registered for, and working towards, either a PhD (MPhil/PhD) or a PGT qualification in a relevant subject.
Experience and skills needed
- Strong knowledge of the subject area.
- Experience teaching or supporting undergraduate or postgraduate students in person, online, or through distance learning.
- Experience mentoring, supervising, or teaching students in practical or active learning settings.
- Relevant administrative experience, such as student support or course administration.
- Excellent communication and presentation ability.
- Confidence using IT and software tools to support teaching and learning.
- Ability to work on your own and as part of a team.
- Good time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Commitment to the Universityâs stated values and professional standards.
