This opportunity is with a fast-growing semiconductor business in Fareham, Hampshire, developing advanced sensing and display technologies. The company works at the forefront of embedded systems, firmware, and algorithm development, and is seeking a technically strong engineer who can combine hands-on coding with leadership responsibility.

The position is for a Lead Embedded Software Engineer who will take ownership of a small sub-team and help steer delivery across embedded software and firmware work. The role is suited to someone who enjoys being close to the technical detail while also mentoring others, coordinating work across teams, and helping projects move smoothly through the full development lifecycle.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for a small embedded software team, helping shape priorities and guide day-to-day delivery.
• Remain actively involved in development work, contributing directly to embedded software and firmware tasks.
• Support and mentor engineers within the team, helping them grow and perform effectively.
• Drive progress across embedded software and firmware projects from initial development through to completion.
• Work with colleagues across different functions to keep engineering activity aligned and delivery on track.
• Contribute to a business focused on next-generation sensing and display solutions, with work spanning embedded systems, firmware, and algorithm development.

What the employer is looking for

• Substantial experience developing embedded software in C.
• Working knowledge of Python, particularly for tooling, scripting, or algorithm-related tasks.
• Commercial experience in leading projects, guiding teams, or mentoring other engineers.
• Confidence in driving delivery across the full software development lifecycle.
• Background in a semiconductor or chip-related environment would be an advantage.
• Any experience with DSP, sensing technologies, or algorithm development would be especially valuable.
• The ideal candidate will be a senior engineer who is ready to step into, or continue in, a technical leadership role within a fast-moving environment.

Package and working arrangement

• Salary of up to £80,000.
• Bonus included as part of the package.
• Hybrid working model with three days per week onsite.
• Based in Fareham, Hampshire, England.
