Capgemini Invent is looking for an experienced Managing Consultant or Senior Manager to join its Energy Retail team within Energy Transition & Utilities. This role sits in a transformation consulting environment where strategic thinking, creativity, scientific rigour, and technology are combined to help clients solve difficult business challenges and deliver meaningful change. The position is focused on helping energy retail organisations respond to disruption, improve performance, and build resilient operations that are ready for the future.
What the role involves
In this position, you will take a leading role in shaping and delivering complex transformation programmes for major organisations in the energy retail market. You will support clients from early strategy work through to execution, acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders and helping them make practical decisions that can be implemented successfully. The work requires you to lead cross-functional teams, influence senior decision-makers, and ensure that solutions are both innovative and grounded in operational reality.
You will be expected to lead delivery on large-scale change programmes while also contributing to the growth of the practice through business development. The role includes helping clients address major challenges such as redesigning customer journeys, creating change roadmaps, aligning business transformation with technology transformation, and establishing new AI-enabled and agentic services. A key part of the job is improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, strengthening customer experience, and helping clients become more competitive in the market.
The team works across a broad range of energy retail topics, including both consumer and business customer markets, billing, CRM, debt management, and operational optimisation. The role also involves helping clients use emerging technologies, including agentic AI, to create new value and position themselves as leaders in the sector.
Key responsibilities
- Lead complex transformation programmes for large energy retail organisations, taking work from strategy through to delivery.
- Advise senior client leaders and help them navigate major change with confidence and clarity.
- Coordinate and guide multi-disciplinary teams to produce solutions that are innovative, practical, and implementable.
- Support clients in redesigning customer journeys, building transformation roadmaps, and aligning business and technology change.
- Help organisations introduce new AI-driven and agentic services where these can improve outcomes.
- Drive operational improvement, cost reduction, customer experience enhancement, and stronger market competitiveness.
- Apply deep knowledge of the GB retail energy market to client challenges, especially where work involves suppliers and code managers.
- Work on a mix of B2C and B2B retail energy issues, including billing, CRM, debt, and service optimisation.
- Identify opportunities for client improvement and convert them into proposals, pitches, or responses to formal bids and RFPs.
- Develop new propositions and represent the practice in client meetings and external events.
- Contribute to practice development through thought leadership, operational improvement, recruitment, team events, and people development.
- Support junior colleagues through mentoring and active team leadership.
- Take a hands-on approach to solving client problems and contributing directly to delivery.
- Make use of learning and development opportunities, including training and certifications, to keep skills current.
Experience and qualifications needed
- At least 8 years of consulting experience or experience in a directly relevant industry role.
- Strong knowledge of the GB retail energy market, ideally gained through work with or for energy retail suppliers and/or code managers.
- Evidence of having worked on relevant organisations and programmes, with useful insight and relationships already in place.
- Proven ability to deliver change in a practical, hands-on way.
- Experience managing teams and several workstreams at once in complex delivery environments.
- Experience contributing to practice growth, building teams, and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
- Background in delivering technology-led transformation in energy retail.
- Experience with customer experience strategy, including improving engagement and aligning CX with business objectives.
- Experience mapping end-to-end customer journeys, identifying pain points, quantifying improvement opportunities, and delivering changes in an agile manner.
- Knowledge of CRM and billing platforms, including re-platforming and end-to-end solution design.
- Ability to identify where technology can improve business, customer, and operational performance, and to integrate solutions across those areas.
- Experience improving operations and service through new ways of working, operating model change, and organisation design.
- Experience supporting clients through significant market, regulatory, or industry change while maintaining continuity.
- Ability to use generative AI and agentic AI to address energy retail challenges and improve delivery outcomes.
- Business development experience, including generating new business through existing relationships, wider firm relationships, and personal networks.
- Experience leading proposals, responding to RFPs, building propositions, leading pitches, and hosting events.
- Willingness to work flexibly and be fully open to assignment location, including travel and periods away from home at short notice.

The role has an office base in London, Manchester, or Glasgow, but it is not tied to a single location. You must be fully flexible about assignment location, as the work may require time away from home at short notice.
