Principal Real Time Interconnect Architect Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Principal Real Time Interconnect Architect
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Multiple Locations

This role offers the chance to help shape the future direction of Arm-based systems across a wide range of products, from mobile devices and vehicles through to datacenter platforms. The position is focused on leading the definition and validation of quality-of-service capabilities across Arm’s IP portfolio and system architecture, with an emphasis on real-time behavior, predictability, isolation, and efficient operation.

What you will do

  • Set out the QoS requirements needed across Arm’s IP portfolio so that system-level goals can be met for real-time predictability, power efficiency, performance, isolation from interference, and protection against “noisy neighbor” effects.
  • Work alongside solution architects to translate system needs into precise QoS requirements and then define the architectural elements that satisfy those needs.
  • Collaborate with architects working on AMBA and the wider Arm architecture to help enable the next generation of QoS capabilities.
  • Develop and lead the approaches used to demonstrate that the QoS architecture meets its requirements, both through theoretical reasoning and through validation in real hardware or system environments.

What we are looking for

  • Experience building systems with strong QoS behavior, including systems that must meet hard real-time requirements, together with related concerns such as isolation, performance, and power management.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and build consensus across several teams when discussing technical topics.
  • A good grasp of QoS theory and the ability to assess and compare different possible solutions.
  • Practical RTL design experience that is deep enough to understand how architectural decisions influence area, speed, and power.
  • Programming ability in Python or a similar scripting language.
  • A self-starting mindset with the ability to define objectives and deliver against them.
  • Additional experience that would be valuable includes performance modelling, systems power management, and architecture work across client, automotive, and datacenter domains.

What Arm offers in return

  • The opportunity to contribute to products that are at the cutting edge of digital technology and to have visibility across a broad set of technologies that are central to the industry.
  • Work within a team of highly skilled, inventive, and committed engineers in an environment that is described as supportive and innovative.
  • Exposure to Arm’s Cambridge headquarters, which is presented as the company’s global base and a major center for architects and technologists shaping future Arm technology.
  • Access to the Sheffield office, which is described as collaborative and inclusive, with a diverse set of teams and the added benefit of a relatively affordable cost of living and easy access to the Peak District National Park.
  • A salary in the range of £168,300 to £227,700 per year.

Working arrangements

Arm describes its working model as hybrid. The aim is to combine strong performance with personal wellbeing by bringing people together in person while still allowing flexibility. Teams are given the ability to decide the pattern that works best for their work and needs, and the exact setup for this role will be explained during the application process. In some situations, flexibility may be constrained by local legal, regulatory, tax, or similar factors, and Arm says it will work with candidates to identify the most suitable arrangement.

Support during recruitment

If you need an adjustment or accommodation during the hiring process, Arm asks that you contact its accommodations team by email. Examples of support mentioned include extra time between interviews, having documents read aloud, and help with office accessibility. Any information shared for this purpose will be handled confidentially and used only to arrange the appropriate support.

Equal opportunity

Arm states that it is an equal opportunity employer and aims to provide a respectful environment where all applicants and employees have equal access to opportunity. The company says it values a diverse workforce and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
