This is an opportunity for an experienced principal-level embedded software engineer to join a well-established engineering team in central Bristol. The role involves developing embedded software products for a wide range of customers, spanning everything from small startups to major global technology businesses. It is positioned as a challenging post with significant responsibility and clear potential for fast progression into management.
What you will be doing
- Building embedded software products as part of a collaborative team in central Bristol.
- Contributing to projects for a diverse customer base, including both emerging companies and large international technology organisations.
- Applying strong low-level embedded programming skills in C and assembler.
- Working on embedded systems design and architecture-level problem solving.
- Using ARM-based platforms and related development knowledge in day-to-day engineering work.
- Working with real-time operating systems as part of embedded product development.
- Using networking knowledge, including TCP and UDP, where relevant to the product work.
- Reviewing the work of other engineers and helping maintain technical quality across the team.
- Supporting junior engineers and contributing to their development.
- Taking on responsibilities that may lead toward a team lead or management position.
What the employer is looking for
- A strong academic background.
- At least five years of experience in embedded engineering.
- Hands-on experience with low-level Embedded C and assembler programming.
- Experience designing embedded systems.
- Knowledge of ARM architecture.
- Experience with real-time operating systems.
- Understanding of networking protocols such as TCP and UDP.
- Any experience in the automotive or medical sectors would be beneficial.
- A collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in working closely with other engineers.
- Confidence in reviewing othersâ work and helping junior colleagues.
- Either existing team leadership experience or the ambition to move into that kind of role.
