Product & Yield Engineer Data-focused Overview

Company Name Fractile
Job Role Product & Yield Engineer Data-focused
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Bristol

Fractile is hiring an engineer to contribute directly to the development and manufacturing of its silicon products, with the main emphasis on product, yield and manufacturing data analysis. This is a hands-on individual contributor position for someone who enjoys working closely with data, digging into difficult technical issues and turning analysis into practical engineering decisions.

The role sits across new product introduction, yield engineering and product quality. You will work with large and complex semiconductor datasets to uncover trends, identify sources of variation, improve yield and reliability, and provide clear technical insight to both internal engineering teams and external manufacturing partners.

What you will do

  • Play a key part in the development and manufacture of Fractile’s silicon products, focusing on product, yield and manufacturing data.
  • Support activities spanning new product introduction, yield engineering and product quality.
  • Analyse large semiconductor datasets to find trends, correlations, excursions and mechanisms that reduce yield.
  • Investigate manufacturing and test variation to determine root causes, reliability concerns and improvement opportunities.
  • Translate data analysis into clear technical conclusions and actionable recommendations for engineering and manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Work independently on unclear or ambiguous technical problems, moving from initial exploration to a well-supported conclusion.
  • Build scripts, automated analyses, dashboards and repeatable workflows that can be reused for standard investigations and reporting.
  • Bring together data from multiple sources and manufacturing stages to solve complex product and process issues.
  • Apply statistical techniques to semiconductor manufacturing data to support process understanding and improvement.
  • Present findings through concise charts, reports and technical presentations.
  • Travel internationally when required to support the work.

Experience and knowledge needed

  • Experience in the semiconductor industry in product engineering, test engineering, yield engineering, data analytics or quality engineering, ideally with exposure from new product introduction through to high-volume production.
  • Strong ability to analyse semiconductor manufacturing and test data to identify trends, relationships, excursions, yield loss drivers and improvement opportunities.
  • Broad practical knowledge across as many of the following areas as possible: wafer fab analysis including process integration, yield enhancement, D0 control, defect reduction and process variation; IC assembly topics including assembly process, package design, 3D IC and wafer stacking, assembly quality control, bill of materials optimisation and yield engineering; or fabless semiconductor work including product qualification, reliability and failure analysis, RMA investigation and production monitoring.
  • Strong familiarity with WAT, WS/CP and FT datasets, including how to correlate results across manufacturing and test stages.
  • Excellent data mining, statistical analysis and root-cause investigation skills, with the ability to turn complex datasets into clear engineering conclusions.
  • Experience identifying yield signatures, parameter distributions, outliers, spatial patterns, lot-to-lot variation and whether failures are systematic or random.
  • Practical use of semiconductor analysis tools and software such as yieldHUB, Spotfire, JMP or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to create scripts and automated analytical workflows for investigations and recurring reporting.
  • Experience applying statistical methods such as SPC, Cp/Cpk, distribution analysis, correlation analysis, hypothesis testing and trend analysis to semiconductor manufacturing data.
  • Ability to combine data from multiple sources and process stages to investigate difficult product and process problems.
  • Understanding of FMEA-based qualification planning and relevant standards such as JEDEC.
  • Awareness of semiconductor failure analysis methods and the ability to use analytical data to help choose between destructive and non-destructive investigation techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present analytical findings clearly through visuals, reports and technical presentations.
  • Comfort working independently on open-ended technical issues and driving investigations to a supported conclusion.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-focused attitude.
  • Self-starter mindset, flexibility and the ability to manage several analyses or investigations at once.
  • Willingness and ability to travel worldwide when needed.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in electronics, microelectronics, semiconductor physics, engineering or a similar subject.

Preferred experience

  • Building automated yield-monitoring, reporting or anomaly-detection workflows.
  • Working with large semiconductor datasets using SQL, Python or similar data-analysis tools.
  • Creating dashboards, standard analytical journals or reusable engineering analysis frameworks.
  • Experience working across cultures, including with suppliers and manufacturing partners in the Far East.

What Fractile offers

  • A competitive salary aligned to your experience and the specialist nature of the role.
  • Meaningful equity so employees share in the value created by the company.
  • Private medical, dental and vision cover.
  • A contributory pension.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Life insurance and critical illness insurance.
  • A diverse and lively office environment.
  • A commitment to equal employment opportunity, diversity and inclusion.

Fractile says it is working to accelerate global progress one chip at a time. The company has recently raised $220 million from investors including Founders Fund and Accel, and it says its most important work is still ahead.

Additional compliance information

The company notes that its work involves technologies covered by UK, US and other international export control regulations. Because of this, some roles may require extra checks to confirm eligibility under applicable law, and Fractile says it will be transparent about this during the hiring process.
