A global ICT development organisation is looking for a senior-level operating system performance specialist to join its design centre in Cambridge. The position focuses on advanced system performance work for the next generation of ICT products, with a strong emphasis on modelling, simulation, and optimisation across the software and hardware stack.
What the role involves
- Leading detailed analysis of operating system performance for complex ICT systems.
- Using modelling and simulation techniques to study how next-generation systems behave.
- Finding execution bottlenecks and other hotspots that limit performance.
- Defining and working with performance metrics that help measure and improve system efficiency.
- Contributing to software-hardware co-design efforts so that both sides of the system are tuned together.
- Helping improve product performance while also increasing energy efficiency.
- Supporting chip-level and system-level performance work as part of the wider development effort.
What the employer is looking for
- A master’s degree, or an equivalent level of academic achievement, is required.
- Extensive experience in chip performance analysis, simulation, modelling, and software/hardware optimisation is expected.
- You should have a strong grasp of chip design processes and how they connect to system performance.
- Hands-on familiarity with performance modelling and simulation tools such as gem5 and QEMU is important.
- Experience building and maintaining gem5 simulators is specifically mentioned as valuable.
- Any background in software/hardware co-design methods would be a plus.
