This senior full-stack engineering role sits within Deliverooâs London technology organisation and focuses on building and scaling product features across both backend and frontend layers. The work is centered on high-traffic systems that support a large marketplace serving customers, riders, and partners at global scale. The team operates in a fast-moving environment where engineering decisions have direct impact on the quality, reliability, and growth of the platform.
The position is based in Deliverooâs London office at The River Building and follows a hybrid working model, with a typical expectation of three days per week in the office. It is a permanent role within the engineering function.
What you will do
- Design, implement, and scale backend services and frontend components that must perform reliably under heavy traffic and substantial request volumes.
- Take responsibility for improving the architecture of the systems your team owns, while also helping keep them observable, efficient, and operationally healthy.
- Participate actively in code review and architectural discussion, using your experience to raise engineering quality and support long-term maintainability.
- Work with product managers and experience designers to shape delivery plans, identify dependencies early, and reduce technical uncertainty before it becomes a delivery risk.
- Break down complex technical challenges into workable implementation paths and help influence the teamâs roadmap and technical direction.
- Support the development of other engineers through mentoring and by contributing to the hiring process for new engineering talent.
What the team is looking for
- Deep experience building web applications in a modern engineering environment, with the ability and willingness to work across languages and services such as Go, Ruby, Python, and Scala.
- A strong track record of designing and operating web architecture at scale, particularly systems that handle large numbers of requests.
- Practical ownership of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, along with experience using non-relational technologies including Redis, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch.
- A strong engineering craft mindset, shown through clear, well-structured, readable code that is carefully tested.
- Collaborative leadership skills, including the ability to guide implementation choices and help teammates grow professionally.
- Comfort operating at senior level in a role that requires sound technical judgment, ownership, and influence.
- Interest in working on meaningful problems in a high-ownership environment where teams move quickly and are expected to deliver real impact.
Why Deliveroo
Deliveroo describes its mission as improving the way people shop and eat, and the engineering organisation plays a central role in making that happen. The company works on a complex, always-on marketplace, and the engineering teams are responsible for solving difficult technical problems that affect millions of people every day.
Engineers are encouraged to move quickly, test ideas, and learn from the results. The environment is described as low on hierarchy and high on ownership, with strong support for people who want to take on ambiguous challenges and grow through responsibility. The culture is positioned as one for builders: collaborative, demanding in a positive way, and focused on continuous learning.
Deliveroo also notes that it is now part of DoorDash, which means some roles may involve working with colleagues, systems, and leaders across Deliveroo, DoorDash, and Wolt as part of a broader global organisation.
Interview process
The company says it aims to run a fair hiring process that allows candidates to demonstrate their skills clearly. The interview process for this role usually has three to four stages. Deliveroo also points candidates to its engineering interview guide and tech blog for more insight into how the team works and what to expect.

Deliveroo states that it values diversity, equity, and inclusion and wants to build a workplace that reflects the world around it. The company says it welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and is committed to equal opportunity regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion, or belief.
If an applicant has a disability or long-term health condition and needs help applying or requires reasonable adjustments during recruitment, the company says support can be requested after submitting the application.
