You will join Arup’s transport consulting group, working in a collaborative and inventive environment that sits at the centre of the organisation’s transport planning and modelling capability. The team works on a broad mix of complex, high-profile transport assignments in the UK and internationally, partnering with multidisciplinary colleagues and contributing to sustainable, resilient transport networks.

What the role involves

  • Build and apply strategic transport models to support challenging transport schemes and help solve real-world mobility problems.
  • Contribute to project delivery and bid work by developing models, preparing forecasts of future demand and conditions, testing different mitigation options, and assessing the likely performance of proposed schemes.
  • Take part in the full modelling process from start to finish, including data analysis, model development, reporting, visualisation, and direct engagement with clients.
  • Work closely with senior modellers and project managers to provide technical input and help move projects forward.
  • Collaborate with teams across different disciplines and locations, with the possibility of supporting work elsewhere in the UK and overseas when required.
  • Use data, modelling tools, and innovative approaches to address transport planning challenges in a practical and impactful way.

What you should bring

  • Background in transport modelling, with experience that may include highway, public transport, and/or multimodal modelling.
  • Practical experience using one or more of the following platforms: VISUM, SATURN, CUBE, or MATSim.
  • Experience in developing models, calibrating them, and validating them to a professional standard.
  • Solid understanding of TAG-related requirements, forecasting techniques, and scenario testing.
  • Strong data analysis capability, along with the ability to write clear technical notes and reports.
  • Excellent presentation standards in both written and technical outputs.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • An interest in continuing to grow your strategic modelling expertise, broaden your technical toolkit, and develop your career in a supportive team.
