The wider transport planning business operates across the UK and internationally, and the team works alongside multidisciplinary colleagues and the global transport modelling community to help deliver complex, high-profile projects that contribute to more sustainable and resilient transport networks.

This opportunity is aimed at people who want to strengthen their strategic modelling capability, expand their technical range and progress their career in a supportive team. The work covers the full modelling lifecycle, from handling and analysing data through to building models, forecasting future conditions, testing mitigation options, assessing schemes, producing reports and visual outputs, and engaging with clients. The role also involves working with colleagues across different disciplines and locations, with the possibility of supporting projects elsewhere in the UK and overseas when needed.

What you will do

  • Build and develop strategic transport models that support project delivery and bid work.
  • Use data, modelling tools and innovative approaches to address real transport challenges on complex schemes.
  • Work with senior transport modellers and project managers on high-profile assignments.
  • Analyse transport data, develop models, and apply forecasting techniques to understand future conditions.
  • Test mitigation measures and alternative scenarios to support scheme design and appraisal.
  • Carry out assessment work across the modelling process, from early-stage analysis through to final reporting and visualisation.
  • Prepare technical notes, reports and other written outputs, ensuring a high standard of clarity and presentation.
  • Communicate modelling findings to clients and colleagues, including through direct client engagement.
  • Collaborate with teams across disciplines, offices and geographies to support integrated project delivery.
  • Contribute to transport projects in other parts of the UK and internationally where required.

What the team is looking for

  • Previous experience in transport modelling, ideally covering highways, public transport and/or multimodal models.
  • Practical experience using one or more of the following tools: VISUM, SATURN, CUBE or MATSim.
  • Experience in model development, calibration and validation.
  • Sound knowledge of TAG requirements, forecasting and scenario testing.
  • Strong data analysis skills and the ability to turn complex information into clear technical outputs.
  • Experience writing technical notes and reports to a high standard.
  • Strong presentation skills and attention to detail in the way work is communicated.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both on your own initiative and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A desire to continue developing strategic modelling expertise and broaden technical capability.
