Arup is looking for experienced and motivated transport modellers to join its Transport Consulting team. The work sits within a collaborative and inventive environment at the centre of the company’s transport planning and modelling capability. The wider transport planning practice operates across the UK and internationally and works closely with multidisciplinary teams and Arup’s global modelling community. The team supports complex, high-profile transport schemes that contribute to more sustainable and resilient transport networks.

What the role involves

  • Building and applying strategic transport models to support live projects and bid work.
  • Using data, modelling tools, and new approaches to solve real transport planning problems.
  • Working with senior modellers and project managers on forecasting, scenario testing, mitigation analysis, and scheme appraisal.
  • Covering the full modelling process from initial data analysis and model development through to reporting, visualisation, and client communication.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across different disciplines and locations, including support for work elsewhere in the UK and, when needed, overseas.
  • Contributing to projects that are technically demanding and visible, with the opportunity to strengthen strategic modelling expertise and expand technical capability.

What Arup is looking for

  • Previous experience in transport modelling, ideally across highways, public transport, and/or multimodal models.
  • Practical use of one or more of the following packages: VISUM, SATURN, CUBE, or MATSim.
  • Experience in developing models, calibrating them, and checking their validity.
  • Understanding of TAG-related requirements, forecasting, and scenario testing.
  • Strong data analysis skills and the ability to turn findings into clear reports and technical notes.
  • High standards of written presentation and attention to detail in technical outputs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both on your own initiative and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • An interest in continuing to grow as a strategic modeller within a supportive and collaborative setting.
