Metro Bank is looking for an Analytics Engineering Manager to help deliver dependable, analytics-ready data that supports reporting, insight generation, and advanced analytics across the business. This role sits within the bank’s careers team in the AMAZE Central area of Holborn, Greater London, and is focused on making sure data products are reliable, well controlled, and delivered on schedule so the organisation can make trusted, scalable decisions.

The bank describes itself as a place where people come first, with a culture built around genuine care, collaboration, individuality, and long-term relationships. It also places strong emphasis on balance, and says that most roles are designed with hybrid working in mind wherever that is practical.

What you will do

  • Lead the daily delivery of analytics engineering work so that outputs are accurate, efficient, and aligned with agreed business priorities.
  • Manage the analytics engineering backlog, allocate work, and run sprint activity to keep delivery organised and predictable.
  • Develop and maintain curated datasets, transformation pipelines, semantic models, and reusable analytics components that support reporting and advanced analytics.
  • Apply and maintain engineering discipline across the team, including code quality, version control, testing, optimisation, documentation, and peer review.
  • Help shape and implement shared engineering patterns, templates, and reusable frameworks that can be used across analytics engineering teams.
  • Provide practical technical support when required, especially where engineers need help resolving complex modelling, performance, or data quality issues.
  • Work in partnership with Product Owners, Data Engineering, Data Visualisation, and Advanced Analytics teams so that analytics-ready data meets the needs of downstream users.
  • Ensure governance and compliance controls are built into analytics workloads, including lineage tracking, metadata capture, data quality checks, and readiness for audit.
  • Monitor workload performance, cost, and operational reliability, then take action to resolve issues and improve efficiency.
  • Support prototype development, controlled experimentation, and iterative refinement of analytical products.
  • Coach and mentor analytics engineers to build capability, support career development, and promote consistent delivery practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement work such as tooling enhancements, automation, better documentation, and process optimisation.
  • Carry out any other duties that reasonably fall within the scope of the position.
  • Work with a strong awareness of risk, taking responsibility and raising concerns where appropriate, in line with the bank’s expectation that colleagues do the right thing for customers, colleagues, and Metro Bank.

What you will need

  • Experience managing or leading an analytics engineering, BI engineering, or data transformation team.
  • A track record of delivering reusable analytical datasets, semantic layers, or transformation pipelines.
  • Experience coordinating delivery in an agile or iterative analytics environment.
  • Proven ability to apply and enforce engineering standards such as testing, documentation, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience working with Product Owners, Data Engineers, BI Developers, and Data Scientists to deliver integrated analytics solutions.
  • Experience operating in complex data environments or regulated sectors.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting analytical modelling, data quality, and performance issues.
  • Professional training or certification in analytics engineering, data engineering, BI engineering, or cloud analytics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Awareness of the risks associated with the role and what that means for you, the bank, and its stakeholders.
  • A willingness to take responsibility, act in the right way for customers and colleagues, and speak up when concerns arise.

What Metro Bank offers

  • A competitive salary.
  • A discretionary annual bonus.
  • A broad benefits package that includes generous holiday entitlement, a strong pension arrangement, healthcare, life assurance, and a range of colleague discounts.
  • Training to help you succeed in the role.
  • Internal career development opportunities, with the bank noting that a substantial proportion of recruitment comes from internal promotion.
