Job Type Full Time
Location London

This is a senior market risk oversight position based in London, focused on providing independent challenge and control over the Prime Services and XVA businesses. The role sits in a fast-moving environment where the successful candidate will work closely with trading, sales, in-business risk, credit, and control teams to make sure traded risk stays within approved appetite and meets regulatory expectations. It is a high-profile role that calls for strong technical judgement, the confidence to influence stakeholders across the front office and control functions, and the ability to respond quickly and clearly when markets become unsettled.

What you will do

  • Take ownership of daily market risk oversight for the Prime Services and XVA desks, including monitoring limit usage, stress testing results, sensitivities, and exposure profiles.
  • Check that trading activity and overall risk positions remain inside approved appetite and the limits granted under delegated authority.
  • Assess and decide on client limit breaches, requests for new business, and applications for additional risk limits, escalating material matters when needed.
  • Identify new or emerging market risks and provide timely analysis, challenge, and recommendations, especially during periods of volatility or stress.
  • Work with Market Risk, Counterparty Credit Risk, and In-Business Risk colleagues to build, review, and improve risk limit structures for Prime Services clients and products.
  • Carry out formal reviews of the risk framework twice a year to confirm that it remains appropriate and aligned with current regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare clear written analysis and commentary for weekly and monthly governance meetings, with emphasis on significant exposures and concentration risk.
  • Support the TRM Head in preparing papers for Financial Markets Product Governance Committees and other senior risk forums across the group.
  • Keep strong working relationships with regulators, auditors, and internal control teams.
  • Partner with Prime Services Sales, Middle Office, XVA Trading, Credit Officers, Finance, Product Control, and Modelling & Analytics teams so that risks are measured, monitored, and controlled effectively.
  • Challenge front-office and control-function colleagues to ensure risk-return decisions are consistent with strategy and approved appetite.
  • Contribute to approvals for new products, service launches, and systems onboarding, making sure the associated risks are properly identified, recorded, and governed.

What the role requires

  • Substantial market risk experience gained in a financial institution, with exposure to securities and financial derivatives.
  • Strong practical knowledge of market risk methodologies and frameworks, including VaR, stress testing, sensitivities, and scenario analysis.
  • Good understanding of XVA risk components such as CVA, FVA, and MVA, together with the risk characteristics of prime brokerage businesses.
  • Experience assessing and approving traded risk limits within a delegated authority structure.
  • Working knowledge of counterparty credit risk approaches such as PFE, EAD, and exposure modelling, as well as hedge fund risk management.
  • Experience operating in a risk oversight role that interfaces directly with the front office, supported by strong stakeholder management capability.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, plus the ability to produce high-quality written reports and commentary.
  • The ability to remain effective and make sound decisions under pressure and in volatile market conditions.
  • A bachelor’s degree or above in a quantitative field such as finance, mathematics, economics, or engineering.
  • FRM, CFA, or a similar professional qualification is preferred.
  • A solid grasp of banking risk management frameworks and the regulatory environment.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Rewards and support

  • A competitive salary package.
  • Benefits that support mental, physical, financial, and social wellbeing.
  • Bank-funded retirement savings support, plus medical and life insurance.
  • Access to flexible and voluntary benefits in some locations.
  • Time off that includes annual leave, 20 weeks of parental or maternity leave, sabbatical leave of up to 12 months, and 3 days of volunteering leave.
  • A minimum holiday standard that combines annual and public holidays to at least 30 days.
  • Flexible working arrangements that allow a mix of home and office working.
