An opportunity is available for a senior embedded systems professional in Gloucestershire, working on the development of electronic systems and embedded software across the full product lifecycle. The role sits within a collaborative engineering environment and involves hands-on technical work as well as close interaction with colleagues from other disciplines.
What the role involves
- Taking ownership of, and contributing to, all phases of electronic system development, including defining requirements, designing solutions, implementing code and hardware interfaces, integrating subsystems, testing, and supporting deployment.
- Designing and developing embedded software as part of broader electronics projects.
- Writing firmware in embedded C and applying that experience across a wide variety of technologies.
- Working with microcontroller platforms such as STM32 and PIC32.
- Producing PCB schematic captures and carrying out schematic reviews.
- Creating PCB layouts using Altium or a similar design package.
- Using Python to build scripts that support development, testing, or engineering workflows.
- Working with standard embedded communication methods such as I2C and SPI.
- Developing in both RTOS-based and bare-metal environments.
- Using test and diagnostic equipment, including oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers, to support development and debugging.
- Partnering with electronic engineers, software developers, and product managers to deliver work effectively across functions.
- Supporting other team members and contributing in a dependable, organised, and committed way.
- Applying strong debugging and problem-solving skills while bringing an innovative attitude and a focus on continual improvement.
What the employer is looking for

- At least 10 years of experience in firmware or embedded C development.
- Strong embedded development experience with microcontrollers, especially STM32 and PIC32.
- Practical experience with PCB schematic capture and schematic review.

- Hands-on Python scripting experience.
- Knowledge of common communication protocols such as I2C and SPI.
- Familiarity with RTOS and bare-metal programming approaches.
- Competence using oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers.
- Self-motivation and strong organisational skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and debugging ability.
- A reliable, committed approach and the ability to work well with others.
- Comfort working in a cross-functional team environment.
- An innovative mindset and a desire to keep improving products and services.
Package and working arrangement
- Salary between £50,000 and £60,000.
- Additional benefits are offered.
- Hybrid working is available.
